I have more than 35 years’ experience as a psychologist, healthcare team leader, Buddhist , and coach. Our lives are replete with both pleasant and unpleasant experiences, and we will experience both whether we want to or not. The only successful way beyond our present circumstance is through. We can't go around If we can live our lives with compassion, gratitude, friendliness, and equanimity, we can set ourselves free from suffering. While unpleasant experiences are inevitable, suffering is optional. To live our lives gracefully—in spite of everything—is attainable.

I do this through Internal Family Systems (IFS) as well as practices from Buddhist psychology.
I work with clients who are feeling that they are ready to get well, even if they do not know what that looks like, or even if its possible. I aim to help those who are tired of being told they need to wait to "deal with trauma". Frequently my clients tell me they have figured out how to get through the day, but they are not living their best life. They might also be trying to figure out how to "get off the ride" of frequent in-patient treatment stays.

I have had a Buddhist meditation practice for many years, and often work with patients who practice or are interested in meditation practice.
I am an experienced, warm and insightful therapist. I work with adults across the life span. I am an active therapist, and I listen carefully. I am interested in supporting patients to understand themselves, their feelings, relationships, behaviors. I find that this understanding, along with the space to experience feelings, leads to the possibility of growth and change. I work with men and women, facing a broad range of personal, work, and family issues. I have often worked with people in their 20's and 30's who want to establish a successful intimate relationship.

Openings available for groups and ind. Welcome. With warmth, clarity and compassion, I offer help to people suffering from "Wounds of the Heart and Mind": Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, neglect and relationship issues, in both groups and individual. With many years experience in both traditional and mind/body approaches, I integrate Relational Attachment work, Buddhist psychology, Childhood Trauma healing groups and energy medicine practices . I believe that along with real pain and suffering, everyone has a potential healthy Self; often obscured or undeveloped. We can build, hold and nurture that together.

I identify as a Buddhist practitioner and draw upon Asian contemplative practices in my work when they are of interest to the people who consult me.
My approach to therapy is informed by the metaphor of life as a tapestry of stories, each entailing different possibilities for who to be and how to live. I view therapy as a process that supports separation from stories that have been subjugating, disorienting or confining, and cultivation of understandings of life and identity that honor a person's experiences of what is precious to them.

The foundation of my practice is based in both Buddhist and Positive Psychology.
Feeling like life is living you instead of you living life? Has the pandemic helped you realize it’s time to make a personal or professional change and you would like some support in doing so? My practice focuses on helping you thrive no matter what is gong on around you. Rather than focusing on getting rid of “bad” feelings, our work will focus positively on how you want to feel; empowering you to discover your path forward. Through the use of a foundation in the mind/body/spirit connection (holistic health) and a focus in Buddhist psychology we will work together to help you mindfully move towards living life intentionally.

I am trained in Buddhist Psychology through Spirit Rock Meditation Center.
I work with clients experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and marriage and family concerns. I work from an interpersonal, attachment-based, and systemic perspective, informed by body awareness and mindfulness practices. In the container of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, we will build awareness of your process--physical, mental, emotional, and interpersonal--as it unfolds both in and out of session. This combination of connection and awareness, over time, can transform the way you relate to yourself, to others, and to the wider world.

Pastoral Counselor, MDiv
As a former teacher of interfaith spiritual guidance, and as an ordained Zen Buddhist minister with a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard University, my pastoral counseling methods are rooted in meditation, Jungian work, and respect for all spiritual traditions.
Pastoral counseling can help you engage life's inevitable challenges by working within the context of your own faith tradition, and thus provides an excellent complement to standard therapy. As a spiritual counselor, my role is to help guide you to your own innate wisdom and compassion -- you already have the answers you need, but you may not be able to see them yet. Working together we can help you find greater clarity.

As a student of Buddhist psychology and meditation, I integrate the psychological with the spiritual and natural world.
Change is a natural part of life. If you want to develop resources to deal with a life crisis or transition, or are seeking new ways of responding to old patterns, I'd like to work with you to actively create a fresh approach to building the life you want to be living. I am easy to talk to, and bring a warm and open presence approaching therapy as a conversation. I listen closely and aim to ask questions that help to grow your own innate wisdom and inspire new ideas and solutions.

My psychotherapy practice is also complemented and informed by my concurrent study and practice of Buddhist meditation and psychology which I have pursued for 28 years, including the completion of 100-day monastic silent retreats for five consecutive years.
I provide psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to adults in a thoughtful, warm, compassionate atmosphere. I treat a spectrum of issues ranging from the commonly practical to the loftily complex, including trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, loss, sexuality, gender, LGBTQ, family, relationships, marriage, professional, identity, existential and spiritual confusion. My therapeutic approach is rooted in psychoanalytic and contemplative theories of human development, function, and dysfunction. I am dedicated to helping my clients grow through their issues in a safe, comfortable, confidential space.

Session are influenced by decades of experience with expressive arts and Buddhist practice and by my own healing, advocacy and leadership in peer support and community building.
I "Circle Forward" with adults and couples from diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, identities & belief systems. I am skilled at supporting people who have been overwhelmed and struggle with "trauma" - unresolved, survival responses (fight, flight, appease & shut down). These natural defensives were essential to dealing with threat in the past, but can get stuck and intrude on relationships and on physical, emotional & spiritual rhythms of day-to-day life. I support you to allow these incomplete organic impulses to emerge & complete slowly, a little at a time. I work online and in Shelburne Falls, MA.

My work is further informed by Buddhist philosophy and psychology.
I approach each client with the assumption that you are coming to me with an intention to alleviate discontentment or suffering. I see my job as helping you articulate your reasons for seeking therapy, to understand the source of your issues, and to find strategies that bring relief. My style is interactive, with an emphasis on caring and supportive feedback. I expect the client to establish the agenda for each session, trusting that the client knows best what needs to be addressed in any given session. I emphasize psychoeducation about the role of, and differences between, thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

I received postgraduate trauma training at Cambridge Hospital (supervised by Judy Herman), completed full psychoanalytic training at Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, and have a background in Buddhist meditation.
In the safety of the therapeutic relationship I create a space where people can talk about what troubles them. You may feel stressed and overwhelmed by a particular life event such as divorce, relationship break up, loss of job, conflict with family members, or are going through a significant life change and may wish to speak to someone. As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist I value nuance and depth, but I am pragmatic and include other treatment modalities, adapting my style to your therapeutic needs. I am also a psychoanalyst and can offer psychoanalysis to those who wish to engage in a deeper process of self-exploration.

People often ask me, "What is the purpose of therapy?" I believe there are a few answers to that question. First, you come to therapy to defrost grief, unexpressed rage and other negative feelings, e.g. traumas, losses, betrayals. You also learn to re-parent yourself. Second, you come to have a better transition in your work or love life, or to improve your performance and personal relations. Finally, you get to share your dreams and goals in a safe environment, with no judgment, and to produce amazing action plans to manifest your best life ever.

Teletherapy
Teletherapy and Online counseling have grown enormously as a medium for therapy since the advent of social distancing. Most therapists are happy to provide sessions by video or phone.

All professionals are licensed to provide video therapy to clients within the State in which they hold their license. Cross State licensing exists, but is rare.

So if you're a client in Massachusetts, this list of teletherapists are licensed to provide therapy to you online (by phone, video or text based chat) because they are within your state. They are sorted nearest to furthest, with professionals in Massachusetts listed first.

Teletherapy via phone or video can be very similar to conventional in person sessions. The message is the same, even if the medium is different. There are some advantages in the form of convenience, lack of travel and being in comfort of your own home. Set against those, professionals find it more difficult to read non-verbal signals of their clients, and you may find you yourself can be more easily distracted.
