Art can be a great tool to bridge the gap between individuals who cannot process their thoughts verbally due to language difficulty or selective verbalization.
My specialties include working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, addiction, dealing with creative block, and other mood disorders. From the beginning of our therapeutic relationship, I want to find out what makes you, your goals, and how you would like to achieve them. I am dual-certified in clinical and art therapy and find that art can significantly benefit the therapeutic process. No matter what making art looks like for you, or even if you would like to make art, I am here to help guide you through your therapeutic journey.

As a registered art therapist, I’m trained in providing art-based and traditional therapy sessions.
Currently offering day and evening appointments Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The first step to seeking help can be intimidating and the most difficult. Therapy can bring clarity and an expanded view of what’s possible. As your therapist, I will support you in navigating difficult emotions, better understanding yourself and accessing your strengths so you can feel like yourself again. When we understand ourselves, and our experiences, we have more control in creating a life that reflects who we are.

I’m a queer art therapist & counselor who provides therapy that is down-to-earth, collaborative, anti-oppressive, and affirming.
Let’s face it–shit has hit the fan. Between the pandemic, systems of oppression, and so much uncertainty...we’re all trying to figure it out. Plus, you have things you were already dealing with– depression, trauma responses, grief, existential questions...Maybe you’re tired of “blank slate” therapists. You want to explore healing through art and creativity instead of just talking. You want space to process your past & present experiences and to deepen your understanding of and reconnect with yourself. You’re looking for someone who "gets" it– who validates your lived experience and who has been on that side of the couch.

By utilizing art making in session, the mind and body can be reconnected and begin to heal.
Have you been struggling to find a safe place to share your experience and feelings? Approaching change can be a vulnerable process, finding someone to engage in that process with can be even harder. I am here to walk along side you as you explore your experience with shame, trauma, perfectionism, abuse, anxiety, depression, identity, parenting, sexuality, attention and concentration difficulties, relationship challenges, grief, and your emotional experience. I aim to do so while maintaining my own cultural competency and acknowledging the larger systems of power and oppression within our society and their impact on our experience.

Creative people often need multiple ways to process and integrate information before things "click" and real change takes place. Studio art therapy provides an accepting space for flexible self-expression that moves beyond words into the sensory and tangible world. I focus on helping clients connect their unconscious and conscious minds to align around personal and relationship goals in fresh, creative ways. Together we can enter a space where safety and exploration are bridged, and issues of mood, anxiety, and past trauma can be safely and effectively worked through to improve overall functioning through mind-body integration.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
