Working together, provides you with the space to engage in traditonal talk therapy and art therapy , whichever allows for you to most authentically express the many parts of yourself that make you, you.
To say that life is always smooth sailing would be the furthest thing from honest, but working to develop, explore, and establish yourself can help provide greater ease on your life's journey. Exploring your holistic identity, my treatment approach uses mindfulness practices and art making to connect you to your mind and body. Our minds and our bodies are intertwined to create a unique whole being.

As an art therapist, I support my clients in integrating mindfulness and art -making to establish and enhance their connection with themselves.
Your relationship with yourself is your most valuable asset when building relationships with others. This relationship with self also serves as a compass when exploring different parts of yourself such as sexuality, attachment, and experiences of harm. Many of us struggle with this primary relationship, which complicates concerns we may have around our sexual and relational lives. Exploring sex and relationships can be a disorienting and overwhelming experience. It is important to find spaces that feel comfortable and empowering while sifting through the many layers that impact sexual and relational health and functioning.

Art therapy is another mode of self-expression.
A positive connection with your therapist is one of the main contributors to your growth in therapy. I hope to meet you where you’re at, supporting you with empathy and understanding. Part of our sessions will be helping you to define challenges and the strengths that help carry you through times of change. Therapy may be for venting, processing a crisis, increasing self-confidence, managing anxiety or depression, finding motivation, and on. My therapy practice facilitates emotional + cognitive awareness, learning how past experiences inform our present day selves, and understanding the benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion.

I am trained as both a psychotherapist and an art therapist.
Everyone experiences times when difficulties in love and work or feelings of sadness and anxiety are too difficult to navigate alone. Together, we will explore what is causing you to feel stuck, depressed or alienated in your life. Therapy is a way to uncover the hidden barriers and self-defeating patterns that are preventing you from creating the change you want. It can be daunting to begin therapy, but the process will lead to a life lived with greater satisfaction and meaning.

I am excited to bring various experiences to our therapy room as a Marriage and Family and provisional art therapist.
Every individual carries their own inner wounds that need to be dealt with. I believe therapy can help us progress on our healing journey. When we are empathetically understood and listened to, we discover our hidden strengths as resources and are empowered to better understand and relate to ourselves and those around us. When we start to see our originally rigid pattern of thoughts from multiple angles, we will have a greater capacity to understand situations we find ourselves in more objective ways.

I offer both traditional counseling methods as well as utilization of art therapy techniques.
Becoming a parent is one of the most transformative journeys a person will experience. For some it can be a time for self awareness, reflection and deepening of relationships. For others it may be a time filled with anxiety, fear and distress. After baby arrives the family will be in a time of transition, navigating new roles and how to care for and attune to baby. I am passionate about supporting parents and their babies to navigate the crucial time period.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
