Life can seem like a barrage of stimuli hurling at us. This makes it difficult to listen quietly and to be led intuitively. How do You respond? We all react differently or sometimes even destructively, manifesting in attempts at control, or feeling insecure and compulsive. If one feels anxious, afraid, and uncertain while trying to do life, the struggle to figure things out can seem even less navigable. I seek to create a safe environment that allows people in pain, emotional paralysis, fear, self harm, sadness, etc... to experience hope and gain practical skills in order to navigate their lives with more savvy and confidence.

Change is inevitable; no one stays the same in their life journey. I am passionate about helping others walk through the mountains and valleys in life growing stronger by building their inner strength. Each one of us has wounds and scars but they do not have to define who we are. I love working with individuals, couples, and families to draw on the positive qualities of each member in the family system in order to guide the family toward a more mentally healthier life. Connection is the secret ingredient to your overall well being. When we honor our pain by sharing it, we can heal it. Remaining silent can give power to the pain.

Ms. Helfner is a licensed clinical social worker. She received her BSW from Florida International University. She received her Master’s in clinical social work at Barry University. She went on to complete an MS in Family therapy working towards her PH. D at Nova University. She completed an additional certification as a Master certified Addictions Professional (MCAP) as well as a Clinical fellow in marriage and family therapy. She has over 30 years of clinical experience working with Individuals, couples, teens, LGBTQ, and families. She specializes in Co-occurring disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar disorder, and addiction.

I have spent years working with individuals and helping them through addiction, trauma, anxiety and relationship troubles. Often co-occurring disorders such as codependency and depression live just under the surface and make it hard to sustain a life of meaning and purpose. When these issues are addressed, true healing is possible. I love to assist people in discovering their true self by working through their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

My ideal client aims to engage in an active partnership to build self-awareness and take action to make a change. I will give you feedback and challenge you, which is not everyone’s cup of tea! I work best with those suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, overwhelm, trauma, or emotional flooding. Many of my clients report that our work helped them shift from survival mode to a sense of thriving. I suggest homework; your progress is based on your willingness to practice. The ideal client for my strengths is someone who wants to learn and shift by discovering tangible skills and techniques they can use in their own lives.

Many clients come to counseling feeling like their lives may be lacking alignment, purpose, and understanding, and feel lost about which direction to go.
