The main therapeutic approaches I draw from are Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Exposure & Response Prevention, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Maybe you're tired of suffering from being bossed around by OCD or anxiety. Perhaps you’re in a painful life transition and feeling uncertain, afraid, or lost. I’m glad you’re here. If you feel hopeless, I believe things can get much better, one step at a time. Although it sure can feel this way, rather than viewing OCD or anxiety as a monster trying to torture us, I see it as a hypervigilant alert system whose aim is to keep us safe at all costs. Retraining that alert system can help us get unstuck, heal, and thrive. I never claim to have the answers for anyone’s life, but I love helping people find answers within themselves.

Thirty two years ago, when I began to practice, I was fascinated by the resiliency of people individually, and their family systems. I have worked with people from many different backgrounds, with many different challenges. My approach to therapy is down-to-earth and uncomplicated. Most often I lean heavily into Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I look at challenges from several viewpoints and work with the client to help them identify their strengths within to address their own unique concerns.

I support adults navigating a variety of issues, including chronic pain and chronic illness, dissociative conditions, depression and grief, complex trauma, relationship challenges, searches for meaning, and family of origin concerns. Trained in depth psychology, I am an ideal fit for anyone who is engaged in the process of self-understanding, curious about life, and seeking to be known. I believe the potential for deep healing, connection, and revitalization exists within this work. My approach, while holistic, is rooted in relational psychoanalysis and the belief that talking—about questions and issues that matter—leads to change.

I am a generalist, and my practice includes adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Clients approach me for a wide range of issues and concerns, which can include interpersonal or relationship problems, family conflict, grief, transitions, depression, anxiety, and the recovery from trauma or abuse. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and Licensed Mental Health Professional in the State of Washington My training primarily comes from my time obtaining my Masters in Science from Seattle Pacific University. While in school I specialized in Narrative therapy as well as various other Post-Modern therapies. I have wide and varied experience ranging from working with clients in elementary schools to clients in jail, and everyone in between. Sometimes I joke that I have seen clients for every part of the DSM, but of course that's not true, I am still missing two diagnoses.

Let’s work together to learn new ways of behaving, and grow in your understanding of yourself and family.
"I’m tired of feeling this way. I want help. I want something to change." I hear you, I see you, and I want to sit with you in these moments. You want to feel sure of yourself and content, with coping skills and new ways of engaging in life and with others. Let’s work together to learn new ways of behaving, and grow in your understanding of yourself and family. My strength as a therapist is to get to know you, relate to you and offer another perspective.

If you are here that means you are likely seeking support for something in your life that feels difficult, overwhelming, confusing, or painful. My work is to offer you a safe, kind, and accepting space to further explore your internal and external realities. Together we will be curious about your unique life experience, the impact of your experience, the struggles and conflicts you may be facing, and what you need to thrive. I believe therapy is the process of uncovering who you were meant to be before the world told you who you should be or wounded you with its expectations and cruelty.

Together, we will manage feelings stirred up by isolation, loneliness, anger, self-criticism, and low self-esteem. I use my expertise to teach you to handle anxiety, anger, and depression. Clients often rediscover childhood creativity and make quick progress. Why pay high psychiatrist fees when you can see a certified psychoanalyst for less and achieve better results?

First things first: Admitting when life is in shambles, you feel like you're floundering, and reaching out for extra support can all be humbling, to say the least. Yet, these are such courageous first steps in learning to care for yourself and those around you. Whether you're an individual or a couple, a first-timer, or a therapy regular, I'm proud of you for just getting here! I look forward to meeting you wherever here is, even (and especially) if it's different from where you want to be. And I would be honored to support you on this journey to becoming more you than you are now in whatever ways I can.

Life can be isolating at times. This is especially true when you add in ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, chronic illness, and Queerness, cultural, and relationship issues. We hold so many identities and struggles that influence who we are and how we move through our place in the world. It is essential to find yourself among those identities and move into the whole version of yourself that finds comfort in the here and now. This includes finding your community and support through all that life throws at us.

My patients are usually hard working adults who have run into some tough times or are experiencing difficult emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and addictions. I focus on using a strengths-based and harm reduction approach, which views each person as an individual with unique strengths and challenges. Using this approach values the person and facilitates a customized treatment plan for the individual. My role is not to judge you or your behaviors, but to act as an independent consultant for improving your mental well-being and quality of life.

I think there is no greater pain in life than bearing an untold story or feeling like you have to go it alone and do your work completely by yourself. As your therapist, I view my role as a fellow travel companion and a guide to help you navigate the terrain of your life. I seek to create a safe space for you to explore your story, create detours where there are obstacles, and create a path to a better future. I enjoy working with folks who not only want to find relief from their problems, but also seek to shift the paradigm of how they see themselves in relation to others and the world.

I believe in the importance of feeling connected in relationships, to our environment, and to ourselves. Addressing the “here and now” that arises during therapy allows our sessions to adapt and work with the difficult emotions or thoughts that come up, in an environment that is judgment free and safe. I specialize in working with those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem issues, grief and chronic pain, among other issues. I am LGBTQIA+, gender-affirming, and enjoy working with clients along the spectrum of neurodiversity and disability.

Are you struggling with something? You might feel like life isn’t as vibrant as it once was, or relationships are fraught with conflict. It can be difficult to get out of these places in life on our own. You might feel like it’s best to tough it out or figure it out alone, but you don’t have to. Most of my clients struggle with depression and trauma which causes their lives to feel less like places of their own creation and more like somewhere they just ended up. I welcome clients of all backgrounds who are seeking agency and meaning.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
