I also have extensive training in parenting issues, perinatal mood issues, and grief and loss.
It takes courage to set up your first therapy appointment, and it can be challenging to find a therapist who "gets you". With a trusted therapist, you can identify your struggles and find ways to overcome them, find importance and meaning in your life, experience healing from bad memories, and communicate better with loved ones. I have worked with clients for 29 years helping people find their clarity and truth. I welcome your call to determine if I'm a good fit for you as a therapist.

I offer psychotherapy for grief and many other emotional difficulties, as well as grief groups.
All of us experience times in our lives when a little help is needed. Perhaps now, it is a period of time in your life that is emotionally difficult, a death or loss you are grieving, struggles with depression or anxiety, problematic relationships, or just want to work on personal growth. Perhaps you need a sympathetic, nonjudgmental ear with someone whom you can trust. I hope you can find that person in me.

I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, grief, stress management, life transitions, workplace challenges, and relational concerns.
As a mental health professional for over 20 years, I have always been passionate about changing lives. My clinical background includes forensic mental health and medical social work. It is remarkable to see the gradual progress in clients and the transformative power of therapy at work. The most rewarding part of counseling is the therapeutic relationship with the client and how that foundation is used as a catalyst for change. I love to see the light and joy come back in my client's lives!

Going to school, work, or social events can be terrifying for some. Feelings of anxiety become paralyzing even before we arrive. Whether it's trying to manage stress with school or work demands, navigate feelings around change or loss, or handle social situations like entering conversations or dealing with rejection or bullying, it can be exhausting. We get stuck in habits keeping us from living productive lives and forming healthy relationships. As a result we isolate, turn inward, and experience mood shifts. My clients want a space where they can be heard and learn coping skills to build confidence and emotional stability.

Hello, my name is Holly Myrick. I have seen that by living in this fast-paced and modern society, many of us have become more isolated from our community and from ourselves. I understand that significant stressors we face such as grief, illness, breakups/divorce, trauma, anxiety, depression, bullying, you name it, can make us feel even more isolated and disconnected resulting in a vicious cycle of hopelessness and feelings of brokenness. My passion and goal as a therapist is to guide my clients in feeling reconnected within themselves and their surrounding community through a collaborative and existential approach.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
