My experience includes working with anxiety, depression, trauma, family discord, addiction, eating disorders, and LBGTQ issues.
Each of us is unique. We all come from different backgrounds and cultures. People suffer in different ways and pain can manifest itself through our mental health in various forms such as depression, anxiety, and a myriad of physical and health problems. My goal is to help you make positive changes in your life in order to become the person you aspire to be. I believe no matter how challenging the process, we need to be content and be our authentic selves. In order to do this, we need to explore our struggles and gain insight and make positive change in our lives.

Each phase of life evokes different growth, and changes, which can result in anxiety, stress, career burnout, relationship issues, and identity struggles.
Hello and welcome! My name is Miya Edwards, and I am a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) in California. I am based out of the Inland Empire and provide telehealth therapy within the entire state. I work with adults to address anxiety, self-esteem, identity issues, grief, and depression, using narrative therapy to help each person I work with to develop a preferred story for themselves. My approach varies depending on the person, as there is not a one-size-fits-all scenario. Therapy is tailored to you, however, it is done so from a holistic, person-centered, collaborative, and comprehensive approach.

I have particular expertise in adult psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, LGBTQ+ issues, loss, and relationship problems.
We all have the potential to lead a fulfilling life. Difficult challenges may keep us from reaching that potential though, and we can find ourselves stuck in repetitive cycles of suffering. I offer individual psychotherapy and neurofeedback with a focus on the alleviation of symptoms through inner transformation. With close attention to the unresolved emotional pain and nervous system dysregulation that drive symptoms, I help clients find resilience within the difficulties they face. I draw from time-tested and evidence-based approaches suited to each client's unique needs.

Loneliness is a trickster. It can disguise itself as depression or anxiety. It can get us to sabotage our relationships and jobs, make unwise decisions, neglect our health, turn to substances or food, lose faith in the future. It can decimate our self-esteem, without which we cannot give to others. Maybe once it was loss, grief, trauma, betrayal, being at the top, illness, misfortune, being different, oppression, distance, or age. But now, maybe it's loneliness. And with the requirements of Sheltering In Place and Social Distancing during COVID19, loneliness has become a heightened risk for all of us.

Relationship challenges, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and trauma symptoms make daily life a challenge. I work with these common issues among all people, bodies and genders. I currently see individual, couples and non-monogamous partnerships. My orientations are relational, psychodynamic, and somatic. If you want a steady and strong presence, I'm your therapist. I will help you learn to express your needs in a way others can hear it, build self-trust and develop healthier coping mechanisms. We often find meaning in our lives through the process of unravelling struggle and reprocessing trauma. Therapy is a promising route.

We are the therapy office for people who don't like therapy. Our belief is that therapy doesn't have to be the uncomfortable, somewhat formal experience that most people expect. We have 2 therapy dogs, Jackson and Larry to greet you when you come in the door. Larry is Jackson's understudy and is still quite ..well ... enthusiastic in greeting clients (as long as you're not the mailman). For privacy, we have no on Mendocino Ave, but once you get inside you'll know that you're in the right place. We talk to you like one human to another to help you sort out what's going on in your world and how we can help.

Relationship is regulation dependent. Do you suffer from chronic dysregulation? Do you need support with healthy, connected relationship? I can help you find the peace that you long for. I can assist you in giving and receiving the love that gets pushed away, due to dysregulation and pain. I am adopted. I am an adoptive parent, as well as a step parent. I both live and work with intensive treatment special needs children and families. Childhood developmental complex trauma hits hard; relationships need regulated individuals to be safe and enjoyable. Learning to calm down, be mindful, and enjoy life takes practice and skill.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
