My areas of focus are working with trauma and depression and anxiety .
Everyone has the potential to change, learn and heal. As an attachment focused therapist, I create a safe space for clients to explore themselves and their challenges and find a different way. Our attitudes and beliefs impact our mood and lives. That's good news! It means we can learn to do things differently and become more resilient.

Here we are together, possibly under order to shelter-in-place. Schools are closed, kids are at home, there is panic buying and non-essential business are shut down. Many people are working from home or remotely. I myself have transitioned 100% secure video conferencing. There are concerns about our under-resourced health care system fears of economic instability and insecurity. Right now, we are living in uncertainty with little information on when "normal" will return, if ever. This type of uncertainty causes all kinds of anxiety and psychological disruption in our lives.

Stress, anxiety and depression are common human responses to difficult life events. Current research supports that therapy can help individuals better understand and move through these experiences. In my view there is great potential for healing at any stage in life. I acknowledge that a desire for depth and wholeness is universal - as is the need for meaning. I work mostly with adults, seniors, and family members experiencing adjustment to life changes; including work issues, adult children's struggles, retirement, and loss and grief.

I focus on the underlining structure that contributes to a person's symptoms of anxiety and / or depression. During my 30 years as a therapist I have found that once an unworkable pattern is revealed and the emotions connected to that are expressed, your authentic self is more available. As the internal conflicts fade; relationships become more fulfilling and the meaning and purpose of your true nature becomes evident. I assist each person to create a plan that reflects their values and unique contributions in order to achieve that goal.

It can trigger anxiety or depression or generate dysfunctional coping strategies.
I am a Certified Brainspotting Therapist. Brainspotting is a neuro-experiential modality that was developed by David Grand, PhD to heal trauma. Imprints of adverse childhood experiences and disturbing adult experiences are compartmentalized or stored in the sub-cortical brain. "Where you look affects how you feel." Brainspotting provides access through the visual field to the source of the psychic injury and facilitates integration and healing. By focusing on the brainspot, new neuronal connections are created, new insights generated and self-regulation restored. For more information, please go to Brainspotting.com.

My clients are looking for a compassionate guide to help them build confidence, reduce anxiety and overcome negative limited beliefs. When we are overwhelmed and isolated, life can feel unmanageable. Together we can find a new way forward. I support my clients in working through grief, anxiety , anger, and depression through an integrated approach that increases emotional intelligence, building meaningful relationships, challenging negative self talk. When we can resolve our own internal conflicts we can be empowered in ways that deepen our connections with others.

Working with people in anxiety , depression, shock and pain, arguing couples, shy people, and recovering alcoholics/addicts, I've learned to facilitate growth potential inherent in painful circumstances.
For over 20 years I have been helping men, women and couples when their lives have become painful, deadened, upsetting, or when unexpected events disrupted their lives. I will join with you to help tolerate immediate concerns, to develop effective techniques for you, and if you want, explore further possibilities for more satisfying relationships and life. I'm experienced in both brief, solution-focused therapy, and exploratory deep therapy. I offer clients an empathic, collaborative and individually-focused therapeutic relationship: the surprising paradox of relationship is how we can become more true to ourselves by fully being with someone else.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
