My work has a heavy focus on mindfulness and I offer a willingness to meet in that process wherever you may be.
Living a full, satisfying, and authentic life is rarely something that comes from an unexamined life in modern times. It's not easy to understand who we are, what we want and don't want, and even what is important to us. But it is not impossible and if you are willing to take the plunge into the journey of self-discovery, finding peace, letting go, moving on, finally taking more, or whatever else is holding you back in life or in your way; I am honored to be on the journey with you. Humility and honoring thy self are cornerstones of how I life to work with my clients. I will not judge you, are you willing to do the same?

When working with youth, I typically integrate Play Therapy, Strengths-Based, and Mindfulness techniques to establish a foundation for them to trust themselves and learn how to show themselves self-compassion.
As humans, we are wired for connection. Life and relationships can become complicated for reasons such as unresolved conflict, stress, sadness, grief, or trauma. My goal as a therapist is to help you discover what it means to be authentically connected to your partner, your family, and yourself. Together in therapy, we will be intentional in discovering what needs aren’t yet being met in your life and relationship. Then, we will work together to build communication and emotion-based skills to achieve the healing and connection you deserve so that you can finally feel fulfilled. Let me guide you.

One of the greatest predictors of therapeutic success is a good match between therapist and client. My therapeutic approach is to be gently direct and focuses on you living the truth of who you are. I have no agenda about what your truth is or judgment of how it's become clouded. I am, however, interested in supporting you to live fully. I facilitate awareness through various means: body awareness, blockages to choice, personality, relationships, and teaching mindfulness practices. Clients who hold responsibility have the fuel to catalyze change, and I am ready to work with you.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
