Are you tired of being stuck? Tired of beating yourself up? Board with the same old strategies that don't work? Are you ready for change? Many people experience times in their lives when they begin to feel overwhelmed and have difficulty coping. Feelings of shame, fear, loneliness, anger and hurt can have us feeling trapped and like we will never be okay. Counselling can often help people to transition to a place of balance, where they are much better able to cope, and not feel as overwhelmed. Not only will they be better able to cope, they can develop strategies that can make their lives more manageable and balanced in the future.

I have an eclectic approach to counselling. My approach is highly successful as I tailor the approach, techniques, and therapeutic environment to meet your individual needs. However, I draw primarily from Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory and neuroscience and use EMDR, talk, play and art based interventions. I work with children, youth, families couples and individual adults. I help to support challenges with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, loss and addictions.

After many years of working in healthcare and education in the U.K., the Netherlands and Canada, I realized that I wanted to help others more directly. I wanted to create a safe, understanding, caring, non-judgemental space for people to share their mental health journey with me. I have developed the skills and knowledge, through education at KCPC and through work with the Canadian Mental Health Association and as a BouncBack coach, to use an integrative approach to counselling to guide and support people to reach their mental health goals. This means that I will work with you to find the best way that works for you!

I believe some of the most beautiful work takes place in a therapeutic setting. My goal is to provide you with a safe space, help you feel heard, cared for, understood, and be there for you through your journey in discovering new and different ways in leading a more authentic and meaningful life. I believe we all go through struggles and obstacles in life. Sometimes, what we are trying isn’t necessarily working anymore and we may need new and different perspectives and ways of tackling such issues and concerns. When given the right space, I believe you can heal from your trauma and succeed in leading a life that you want to live.

I work with adults to explore how their past experiences, traumas, and family system have impacted their sense of self, attachment, and patterns. We work to understand how and why their brain (thoughts), body (feelings), and behaviour are conditioned/operating and move towards awareness and acceptance. By exploring past experiences, current triggers, and future goals, we can move towards intentionality and alignment rather than feeling stuck, not good enough, or not in control. My goal is to help individuals understand and deepen their relationship to themselves and others so that they can live happier more fulfilled lives.

Not accepting new clients
*NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS* Life can be unpredictable and challenging, which often causes uncomfortable emotions, anxiety, and changes in mood. This is also common when we transition though different stages of life, and it can impact our self-identity. This is really common as we age into new phases of life and our roles, responsibilities, and expectations change. Not only are these life events challenging for us, they are challenging for the people around us to adapt to as well.

How do I know if I need career counselling?

Determining whether a career counsellor is needed involves assessing one's current career and identifying what changes can be made to improve one's overall quality of life. In particular, feelings of loss of motivation, fatigue, anxiety, depression, procrastination, or ongoing levels of high stress can all be indicative of a need for career-related counselling. In addition, individuals changing jobs may want the decision-making support or self-reflection opportunities provided by a career counsellor.

Who can benefit from career counselling?

Anyone can benefit from the self-reflection, skill development, and stress management techniques that career counselling can provide. However, individuals who are feeling overwhelmed or burnt out with their current job and individuals considering a major career change may particularly benefit from career counselling to improve their wellbeing. Additionally, individuals who are facing issues in their current job, such as coworker relationship challenges or not meeting performance goals, may benefit from the perspective that a career counsellor can provide. College-age or young professionals may also uniquely benefit from career counselling as they make key decisions surrounding education and job training that will impact their career trajectory.

How long does career counselling typically last?

The length of career counselling can vary greatly depending on the needs of the individual and what type of support they are seeking Career coaching or advising services—which serve clients in a specific, goal-oriented capacity—often last for a shorter duration and are sometimes only a single session or a few sessions in length. In contrast, career counselling as part of a more integrative therapeutic relationship with a counsellor may last longer, particularly if the issues faced by the client are longstanding and/or more complex in nature; in such cases, individuals may expect therapy to last multiple months or longer.

How to prepare for career counselling?

Clients can prepare for career counselling sessions by outlining the specific topics they would like to address with the counsellor, such as current job challenges or hopes for the future of their career. Compiling one's thoughts on such topics often requires reflection on one's career and future goals, which in itself can be beneficial for session preparation. Clients may also want to put together a list of questions they would like to ask the counsellor, particularly if the career counsellor they are seeing has particular expertise in a given career area. Conducting research into potential future jobs, training opportunities, or support resources in one's area may also help clients prepare for career counselling by providing them with a background of what resources are available in their area.
