My practice is spiritually informed and trauma informed narative art therapy with a collaborative client centred approach. I work primarily with individual adult clients to re-frame their experiences and find their strengths with new perspectives and solutions to presenting problems. Through creativity and artistic expression, I also can assist clients to work with trauma related underlying issues that are difficult to verbalize. I have a holistic lens, that includes mental, physical, social and spiritual dimensions of health.

As a religious recovery consultant and Registered Professional Counsellor with a fundamentalist background, I help navigate the transition from religious to post-religious life. I understand the multiple losses that accompany religious deconversion: Community, purpose, identity, world view, employment (if clergy or missionary), and more. My clients come from a variety of authoritarian backgrounds including religious, political, and wellness. Together, we explore the damage caused by indoctrination; developing a healthy & reality based worldview; creating a new identity; and how to build a healthy & supportive secular community.

Do you wake up in the morning with dread and little energy at the thought of getting up and facing the day, or feel anxious and overwhelmed when facing daily tasks that seem simple to everyone else? Do you find yourself repeating patterns of thought or behavior to calm yourself from thoughts of incoming dread and wonder if if it's OCD? Or perhaps it feels like all you and your partner seem to do lately is argue, feel impatient with one another and seem to misunderstand what each of you is trying to communicate. Do you look at your partner, feel disconnected and lonely and wonder "what happened to us?"

Using a depth-psychodynamic approach, I work with curious and thoughtful individuals who want to know themselves deeply and become their most authentic and powerful Self. I am particularly fond of working with those in/around their Saturn Return—the quarterlifers (early 20s to mid 30s)—but I work with individuals ages 18 to 80.

Within family units, the need for each member to feel heard cannot be overstated. My approach to couples counselling places emphasis on effective communication while resolving damage done to the relationship by unfair fighting, infidelity or other relationship-based challenges preventing the couple from realizing the benefits of healthy coupling.

Hi I’m Aimee! I am a practicum student working toward my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. To fulfill my needed hours to complete my master’s program, I will be offering my services at a reduced rate. My goal as a therapist is to help people bring their actions into congruence with their values and beliefs. I aim to aid in an increase in self-esteem, and self-worth along with self efficacy while allowing clients to explore their competencies, their worthiness and deservingness to live and to love and accept all versions of themselves. I believe safety and respect need to be at the center of all the work I do.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
