I have a broad base of experience in clinical psychology in the state and private sector, both in South Africa and abroad. I have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, different ages, cultures, beliefs and socio-economic status. As such I am able to engage with a wide variety of people and their life experiences. My preference is to see adult patients with mental health problems ranging from adjustment to life changes or difficult life events (eg trauma, divorce, bereavement, chronic illness, family issues) to psychological and personality problems that cause significant distress.

I work very much with a Humanistic Counselling style that helps clients reach their full potential as human beings. I find that this Client-Centred therapy promotes a safe climate in which I, as the therapist, am empathetic and not judgemental. In this way, I find that the effect of this, the client experiences a sense of acceptance, openness and at the same time receiving unconditional positive regard.

You do not have to wait until you are in crisis before you reach out to a counsellor. One thing in life that is certain is change and facing challenges. Just navigating normal life transitions can be stressful and overwhelming. We are made to be in relationship with one another and when you are going through a difficulty there can be such power and healing in being able to express to someone in confidence what you are experiencing on a physical, emotional, mental and social level. We all need that space where we feel safe, we are able to share in confidence and there is no judgment.

Everybody faces challenges at different stages of life. Some greater than others. I enjoy witnessing the strength of the human spirit and the will to survive. I aim is to help the client to focus on their strengths (rather than their weaknesses). Furthermore to capitalise on their strengths and to realise their full potential. In times of crisis people tend to forget that they have actually overcome so much in life already and given the support they will be able to do so again. My motto is: Never Give Up!

As human beings we grow and journey through life, often we experience the need to change and adapt the way in which we deal with crises. We experience internal turmoil, trauma, stress, relationship, work and family troubles and often these situations demands us to deal with them. The client I would like to work with is somebody who recognises their desire to improve their personal coping strategies to deal with these the best they can. The ideal client is somebody who takes that daunting first step to helping themselves by seeking professional help.

Hi, I’m Louisa, better known as Lulu. I’m a counsellor & coach for all women wanting change, growth & help. Do you feel overwhelmed, anxious, traumatized, disempowered, or just plain stuck? Do you feel reluctant to divulge this to friends or colleagues? You are not alone. I strive to give my clients a safe, genuine and non-judgmental space to be able to release feelings that are holding them back from living their best life possible. Past or present emotional struggles or negative thoughts so often prevent us from moving forward. Counseling and coaching may just shift that dial and positively change your life.

I am a Registered Counsellor with the HPCSA (PRC 0041815) and have a special interest in working with trauma. I have an overall passion for helping those who feel overwhelmed by life. Often, we do not realise from where these feelings of overwhelm originate. And even if we know, we might need help to address them or improve our situation or well-being. Sometimes overwhelm is related to relationships, finances, parenting, health or work. At other times, we may have experienced a specific traumatic event. This might cause anxiousness, fearfulness, helplessness, restlessness, or an intense sense of feeling out of control.

If you are looking to make life better, to get "unstuck" and have a nurturing and warm space in which to process various difficulties, therapy may well be helpful to you. I work with adults, adolescents, couples and have a particular interest in families. My areas of focus include relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and coping skills. You might just want to talk about things confidentially without having a serious crisis.

How can I find a therapist in Cape Town?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
