I practice from an attachment theory lens, and utilize narrative therapy, feminist theory, and existential theories to support our work together.
We all need compassionate connection to grow and heal, and that is especially important in therapy. I provide a connection that is warm, yet intellectual, making sure to challenge your mind and heart for growth, support, and ultimately deeper relationships. I'm a good match for recovering perfectionists, women with ADHD/autism, anxiety concerns, depression, and those wanting support around chronic health conditions.

I strongly believe that all clients are unique in their circumstances and needs. I believe that therapy is best done as a collaborative process between counselor and client. My goal is to build a partnership with you in which we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and ways of being in the world in a deeper way. I encourage my clients to find ways of being their best and most authentic selves and help them challenge beliefs and feelings that prevent them from doing so.

All of us, including you, were born with a core self that’s vibrant, inviolable, and indomitable. It’s still there inside, waiting patiently for each of us to work through the layers of difficulties, frustrations, and self-doubt that have accumulated over the years. When we do that difficult work, we’re able to live more from the core self and less from the wounded layer that so many of us have adopted out of painful necessity. In therapy we'll clarify confusions, heal the hurt places, and connect with your core self so you can live with more ease, truth, and self-love.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I change” (Carl Rogers). This is the work of therapy. I approach this work holistically, attending to how each of us is impacted by past and present relationships, and by systemic influences. My perspective is grounded in humanistic and attachment theories, and influenced by multicultural and feminist thinking, with an emphasis on counteracting oppression and treating other traumas. Research has demonstrated that our bodies hold important information that contributes to healing, therefore I incorporate body-based techniques into therapy as well.

I am currently offering both Telehealth and in-person sessions. I work specifically with clients who have a desire to learn more about themselves, and to increase their experience of vulnerability. While employing a holistic mind, body and spirit perspective, my approach validates each client as having the answers and abilities within themselves to become the best person they can be.

I like people and enjoy getting to know and understand them. There are many ways we can get stuck or get weighed down in life issues. It is exciting for me to assist others in finding ways to get on with living. I believe this occurs when a client feels comfortable in the relationship with their therapist. As a therapist, my first task is to provide a safe environment for a person to experience themselves in new ways.

If you are someone who "breaks the mold," or someone who always felt out of place, I am here to help explore that experience. Whether you identify as LGBTQ+, Neurodiverse, or even a "gamer," you have unique parts of yourself that require an understanding that one size does not fit all. Depression, anxiety, and trauma responses can all be a result of living in a world that might not understand you; I want to create a therapeutic space where you feel safe to be authentically you.

You're already whole and already enough. Maybe life experiences have left you feeling otherwise. Those feelings are worthy of being heard, and it's also possible to shift. I believe that the words you say to yourself, about yourself, have a profound impact on the way you move through these experiences. Therapy can empower you to skillfully notice patterns in your present and understand your past in a new, more supportive way so you can release the narratives that hold you back. You have everything you need within you to reclaim a life that feels good on the inside. An effective therapist can help you uncover and embrace it.

I work with people to help them through hard times. I do all I can to make my clients feel understood, and then we work together to develop and implement techniques to improve their lives. This may mean making it though a change in life, or working to build back to health that has been lost. I try to address every part of my client's life and work to bring them into a fuller expression of themself.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
