My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work better together and understand and resolve challenges in your life. Through therapy we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

I enjoy working with people who are struggling with infertility, perinatal concerns, and new parenthood. I am especially interested in supporting those who desire to build their own families and need emotional support through the process of infertility, fertility treatments, and exploring various pathways to parenthood such as surrogacy and adoption. I am a strong advocate for maternal mental health and I believe more support for mothers is needed in our society after birth and adoption. I also enjoy working with those who are going through transitions in life, whether that is due to relationship changes, a move or change in job.

I have limited availability for a few new clients. Sometimes we may feel stuck. Sometimes life can become overwhelming. Sometimes we have deep emotional wounds that have long limited our ability to experience peace, joy, fulfillment, connection, and love. Sometimes we just need someone to listen, be supportive, and offer another perspective. According to Kristin Neff, "The only way to eventually free ourselves from debilitating pain is to be with it as it is. The only way out is through." I hope to offer you this space to alleviate suffering and increase self-compassion, in order to help you more effectively manage life's stressors.

Currently booking for MARCH. I am honored and privileged to join my clients on their journeys. A successful therapy experience is two-sided: a high level of motivation and commitment on your part, along with my experience, expertise and support. My clients tend to be ready and willing to take deep dives inward to explore themselves. Examining perspectives can lead to deeper understanding and thus allow you to make the shifts you desire in all areas of your life, including your relationships. As life is a series of relationships, the relationship between therapist and client(s) is one that can be a springboard for growth.

Depression, anxiety, and despair invite us to seek out deeper connections and growth. The intimacy that develops in the therapeutic relationship is different from what passes for communication in most peoples' daily lives. In the I and Thou, of genuine therapy, there is no barrier. The goal is to be able to totally see and to be seen. Pretense, persona, the need to impress, many aspects of false perception all fall away. There are no barriers. It is a way of healing soul sickness that is challenging to both therapist and patient while at the same time being effective and fulfilling. Join me for an initial exploratory meeting.

Adoption Therapists

Does my adopted child need therapy?

Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?

Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?

Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?

A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
