You may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, trauma, or depression while trying to keep everything together for everyone else. On the outside you appear capable, yet inside you may feel exhausted from overthinking, emotional pain, or repeating relationship patterns that leave you feeling stuck. Therapy offers a place to slow down, gain insight, and understand what is happening beneath the surface. I use evidence based treatments including CBT, DBT, and trauma informed approaches to help you regulate emotions, strengthen boundaries, build resilience, and develop practical tools so you can move from surviving toward lasting healing and more.

I have nearly 47 years experience in many different settings working with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families. I enjoy working with all people and believe each person has taught me that all people have unique genetic and environmental backgrounds. I have been trained in many different treatment/therapy modalities. No single modality is capable of treating all people. While there are some general "norms", each person has many unique biological and social influences that are constantly changing and individually being interpreted resulting in different normalities for each person.

I work with all types of new clients, however primarily focus on Men's issues related to trauma, anxiety, depression and Emotional Fluency. I have a good deal of life and educational experience that combine to handle an array of issues. I have worked in many different environments and with a vast age range. You will find that my natural demeanor offers a calming atmosphere to discuss life’s issues. The populations that I most enjoy working with are those who have traumatic experiences and would like to work to change their reaction to their surroundings, rather than attempt to force their surrounds to change to fit their needs.

I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as attachment- based, ERP, DBT, CBT, EMDR, IFS, EFT, emphasizing the importance of integrating these models to best suit individual needs.
I have over 20 years experience working and growing with the continually developing mental health field. I believe in the immovable strength that all people have within them. Trauma, pain, and disheartenment are all part of the human experience. We are all connected by these experiences, and our abilities to overcome life’s greatest challenges. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach and I believe strongly in my ability to work with the diversity of mental health issues.

Our reaction to stressors that feel out of our control can vary widely. This is largely based upon our already established internal resources or our sense of psychological safety, the quality of habitual attention we show up with, the quality of communication in our relationships, the clarity of our personal values and the physiological setpoint of our nervous system. Each of these factors are pieces of your experience that I am happy to assess with you.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
