Jeff came to Lifestance Health after working here as an Intern during his first year of graduate training. His journey to becoming a therapist came from having run addiction recovery groups as a volunteer for nearly 3 ½ years. There he found how much pain people live with, often while working hard to appear as though nothing is wrong. There is something so incredibly powerful about seeing someone being validated and heard. Before returning to Lifestance, he worked at Renaissance Ranch Treatment Center–helping those in the acute phase of addiction recovery.

Unexpected situations and moments sneak upon all of us at some point, leaving us feeling unsettled, yet sometimes those situations threaten to overcome us. They challenge and disrupt our relationships, our lifestyles, and even our core beliefs. We feel as though we are wading through each day - existing - and hoping things will change, but not really knowing where to begin, or if it's even possible. Guess what? As bleak as today is, there is hope. Tomorrow will come, and you can regain control of what your tomorrows will look like.

Something has to change. Things aren’t quite right. You never thought you’d act the way you do when you’re pushed the wrong way by things you can’t control, or by people who should understand you. I get it. Really. I do. You are probably thinking that if you just try a little harder, stick to the plan, or just keep on pushing, things will eventually get easier. And they will.... someday. Wanna know something? The struggle isn’t quite as painful, nor does it take as long when you bring a therapist along.

Welcome! I’m Meg, an LCSW with a passion for helping kids and teens grow towards their most fulfilled, secure, and authentic selves. Growing up is hard for everyone, but I’ve found that many of the youth that come to see me have had a harder time than most finding a consistent feeling of safety and belonging in the world. Much of my experience has come from working with those who identify as neurodivergent or LGBTQ+, those diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, or other disabilities, those who have experienced developmental/complex trauma, and those struggling with anxiety, attachment, or self-image.

I know there is no single approach that is the right one for every individual, and so I have training in a range of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), DBT-Prolong exposure, Motivational Interviewing, and done with trauma informed approaches.
I believe that there is hope for a bigger and brighter future through motivating, empowering, and educating. My journey to becoming a therapist began when I found myself a passerby in my life and not loving the life I was living. This was when I discovered my passion for helping others to once again find love for life, empowerment, and purpose by using your own personal strengths, past experiences, and desire for change.

As a specialist in play therapy and ERP, I offer specialized therapy for children, teens, and adults to help them tackles fears that they never thought they would be able to overcome.
So many of us are trapped by our own fears, insecurities, and doubts, facing challenges like OCD, anxiety, hair pulling, skin picking, ADHD, or emotional outbursts. These issues might manifest as overwhelming sadness, fear in social interactions, or constant anxiety from intrusive thoughts, and can lead to avoidance of social situations, struggles with focus at work, difficulty in personal relationships, and a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. These fears might be stealing your laughter, freedom, and connection with others. In therapy I can help you or your child navigate these complex experiences.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
