I am best able to help people who are seeking to recover from life experiences that have caused hurt, relationship and work problems and a decline in personal growth. Persons seeking recovery from a problematic past of drug or alcohol use, obesity, chronic disease, trauma, relationship problems, domestic violence, child protective services involvement, self destructive behavior, grief and loss or situational stress would be an ideal client to work with. I work best with clients who are curious about how to manage complex problems, curious about change and interested in investing in themselves, their children or family.

Do you struggle with just being yourself these days? Well, kick off your shoes, relax your feet, let's get real and talk. "What's tea?” Many people see therapy as a never ending cycle of therapists asking, "How does that make you feel?". I can assure therapy with me is never a cliche. I know how easy it is to feel alone and always asking over and over why me or what else can go wrong. I can understand needing a break and wanting to scream. Thats why I want to listen, act, and help you transform by exploring those issues you may be struggling with together and take back control of your life because you matter too.

To have healthy relationships, we must first have a healthy mindset. Have you ever felt like there was more to your life than what you are experiencing now? Are you tired of struggling with anger, depression, anxiety, or addiction? There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you (Mayou Angelou). I provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy to adults and adolescents struggling with a broad range of issues, including mental health, grief/loss, trauma, and substance abuse. My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.

I am an experienced Psychotherapist and Life Coach who is dedicated to providing exemplary treatment for individuals, utilizing a holistic approach. I will offer support and guidance while you navigate through everyday stressors that affect your well-being, while uncovering your strength and resilience. Emotions are data, a signal that we should check in with ourselves to ensure that our needs are being met. Doing this in a way that honors who you are based on your values and beliefs takes work. It requires a decision to be open to the uncomfortable parts of the process.

These struggles can take many forms such as despair, hopelessness, and anxiety. We are not meant to walk through life physically, mentally, or emotionally isolated and without the help of others. I hope to be able to provide that help for those who need it. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, shame, or something else, I look forward to speaking with you so that we can work together on finding the next steps forward.

Walking through this journal called life is difficult and there lies an extra layer of challenges when one is struggling with their mental health specifically related to past or current traumatic events. In fact, without awareness, we often make decisions and behave based upon how our past experiences have made us feel. I am here to help you explore the root of these issues, which in turn, will lead to the discovery of your true identity and self worth. My therapeutic approach is holistic in nature and this is why I specialize in the use of EMDR, IFS, and ACT.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
