I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the state of South Carolina. I completed a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Georgia in 1979 and was licensed in 1989. I have both administrative and clinical experience in the mental health field. I have been in private practice since 1988, providing counseling services to patients of all ages. For the last ten years I am now focusing on adults and seniors. I focus on those who are trying to resolve issues related to depression, anxiety, grief, abuse, self awareness and acceptance, sexual orientation, and parenting.

My specialization allows me to work with children and adolescents in their struggles with behavioral and developmental issues. I have experience working with ADHD, Autism spectrum disorders, mood, anxiety and other issues. Individual, partner, and family issues are areas that I work with patients to resolve problematic issues to improve relationships within the patient's world.

I specialize in helping adults develop the skills needed to cope with panic, social anxiety, obsessions and compulsions, trauma, depression, and ADHD. I use cognitive behavioral types of interventions, and encourage clients to explore meditative processes in learning to be more responsive and less reactive to stress.

We are products of our environment, experiences and relationships. Along the way, we have gathered deeply internalized beliefs - some that serve our growth and wellbeing, some that don’t - emotions, both positive and negative, and chronic stress or trauma. All of this has impacted our life and much of what has happened in the past still resides deeply in our body, manifesting as behavioral, relational or emotional struggles, often unexplained and sometimes inexplicable.

I want to help anyone who is motivated and driven to help their selves and improve their well-being. Whether someone is scared, confused, angry, or frustrated, if someone has sincere drive and motivation to work then they can be successful. If someone puts forth the willingness and motivation to work with me I will reciprocate that effort, because I want people to reach their full potential and enhance their quality of life.

Welcome! I understand that it can be uncomfortable to reach out to someone you don't know with the expectation of sharing your story. I strive to create a supportive, affirming, and nonjudgmental space in order to foster a safe environment for growth at your own pace. I use an interpersonal approach to work to understand "how did we get here?" and "how can you get to where you want to go?" I hold the belief that all individuals have the inner resources to move towards wholeness, and much of the therapeutic process is connecting to those resources.

My practice is limited to males 11 and up. Focus areas include boyhood, adolescence, masculinity and sexual health. We pretend boys don't experience the same degree of emotions compared to girls but in reality we don't teach boys how to identify, process and express emotions. It's little wonder substance abuse, domestic violence, violent crimes, road rage, communication/relationship problems and silent emotional suffering are at epidemic levels. Anger, depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem are rampant.

As a psychologist, I help clients address barriers to wellness and realize their potential by promoting insight and healthy coping in an emotionally safe context. My goal is to elicit your feedback about your experience and to tailor treatment to your needs. Regardless of the source of the problem or the various ways it can be addressed, I believe that the therapeutic relationship serves as the foundation for effective counseling and treatment.
