Perhaps you were raised in an environment that prioritizes mental health and is supportive of psychotherapy. Conversely, and as often the case, you were taught from caregivers that it was "weak" or "shameful" to obtain professional support, or to even seek help outside of yourself. These sentiments still permeate our culture, and though they are shifting, I find that they still lurk and impact one's drive to pursue mental health care. So in either case (and for all others in between), getting here was a process. In this spirit, I want to commend you for taking this huge and vulnerable step toward healing and deeper self-awareness!

I believe that every person, regardless of diagnosis or past experiences, can lead purposeful and fulfilling lives with the proper support. We do the best with what we have, and too often life presents significant challenges we are forced to adapt to. Sometimes the patterns that were helpful to get through our childhood present major challenges later in life. Our symptoms do not make us abnormal and are not part of a fundamental flaw that needs fixing, they are a normal response to extraordinary circumstances. Problems do not exist within one person but are the result of a person’s context, family patterns, and learned behaviors.

Most of our struggles are relational in nature. As a relationship expert, I will guide you toward healing your relational wounds; to step into the self-actualized, meaningful, joyful life you dream of. We all sustain traumas which shape our beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world. When we understand our protective strategies we can then update our narratives, unburden our traumatized parts, heal attachment wounds, and make room to relate through our highest self. We can learn new skills in communication, somatic regulation, mindfulness, self-awareness, and more fully build the life which best serves our continual growth.

I approach therapy using psychodynamic and feminist lenses. I believe that therapy is most effective and meaningful when done collaboratively and hope to work together to understand how your past relationships and experiences shape who you are today. In particular, I wish to explore how your past influences your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors - all within your sociopolitical context. I tend to be the best fit for those looking to challenge themselves and be challenged in therapy.

If you're seeking more happiness, peace, and control in your life, I'm sorry but I can't help you. The radical premise of my main modality Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is that you can’t ultimately control your thoughts and feelings. And so instead of struggling to micromanage and optimize your experience, we focus on increasing your vivid sensory connection to the full spectrum of your experience—to deeply feel sadness, anger, fear, and even "negative” self-talk as a rich symphony of somatic and energetic textures. It's not about happiness; it's about happeningness: being radiantly plugged into the experience of now.

As social beings, we often adapt to the expectations of the groups and societal norms that surround us. My heart is in helping people create meaningful relationships with the parts of us that have been cast out by cultural, familial, and relational stories.

As a therapist, I believe my first job is to witness. I aim to support a space that is safe enough for you to tell your own story, heal, and step further into your own power. I welcome open discussion of your identities, cultures, relationships, and experiences, including your experience of therapy itself, as it is happening. We’ll work to name how your experiences with structural oppression may have shaped your beliefs about yourself and how you cope. We’ll identify your strengths, and when it’s helpful, we’ll try out tools to support changes you may want to make.
