Though I treat clients of all ages and in most areas of mental health, my primary focus is adults, seniors, and adolescents with anxiety, depression, PTSD and grief, as well as ADHD in individuals of all ages.
I am a psychotherapist licensed in North Carolina and Virginia. In my career I have worked mainly in an in-office outpatient setting but recently I had a traveling position providing psychotherapy services to seniors in assisted living and nursing facilities along the east coast of NC. I have also had the opportunity to work in a school-based setting as well as in a juvenile residential treatment facility.

I work with individuals, families and groups experiencing: ADHD, anxiety, stress, trauma, learning difficulties, career, anger, depression, parenting, coping skills, and peer.
There is hope, no matter what you are experiencing. Having someone listen without judgement, genuinely care and assist you in exploring your problems can help. I want to support you in exploring the issues that you are facing and encourage you to discover positive ways to manage your stressors and difficult life situations. Together we can develop a plan for treatment that's best for you. Your therapy will be unique to what you or your family needs. With children, parents will be involved in treatment.

My trainings are in Perinatal Mood and Trauma.
My goal as a therapist is to support you. I want to create a safe space for you to open up and process your feelings. By talking to someone neutral like myself, the hope is that you feel talking about the difficult things and can find validation in your struggle. I want to support you in finding the answers or the direction you need. Client goals may include talking about your past, working through daily conflicts or making plans for your future. I want you to leave feeling motivated to take on each day with a lighter mental load.

Need help figuring out why your relationship just keeps doing the same thing over and over? Do you feel like no one is actually hearing what you? Is it hard to get past something that happened a while back? We often keep repeating things because we think if we just do it again or do differently we'll finally unlock the barrier that's held us back. My people come to see me after trying something over and over and they feel defeated. Often, the secret is a small tweak from a slightly different angle that helps with trauma, anxiety, depression, communication, and/or relationships.

Therapeutic approaches include Client Centered therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Guided Imagery, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, My clients are usually 18 years old and older.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) I have worked in various settings such as home health/hospice/bereavement, health department, major universities, medical clinics and V.A. I chose the Social Work profession because while in the foster care system as an adolescent and teenager, a wonderful social worker empowered me to facilitate change and choose the direction of my life at the age of 13. In my practice, I acknowledge that you are the expert of your story so we build on your self-determination and strengths. I believe in holistic approach-focusing on whole person-mental, physical, spiritual, social-all interconnected.

You’re exhausted from trying desperately to balance your needs with the demands of kids, school, or work. As a parent you’re struggling to understand where your child is coming from. Does the “parent guilt” creep in while you’re trying to keep all the plates spinning? Maybe you have a child who is anxious, worried, has difficulty sleeping or going to school, or expects perfection. Perhaps you are learning how to parent differently than how you were parented. Balancing caring for you vs. others is hard. Thoughts of anxiety, self-doubt, and concern that you aren't good enough can become a negative self-talk loop in your head.

As a potential client, know that your courage to face personal vulnerabilities and uncertainties is acknowledged from the start. To realize and understand the efforts you've made already affords us early opportunities to consider possibilities in therapy. Your desired outcome is the goal. The process of sharing, reflecting, and adjusting any internal and relational patterns is our therapy means to this end. The clinical approaches perhaps most reflective in therapy are cognitive-behavioral, inter-personal and family systems, and acceptance/commitment. Interventions are based on your child/family, couple, and individual needs.

I get it superwoman; you wear all the hats. Mom hat, wife hat, friend hat, employee hat. All the hats! But this gets exhausting. Constantly having to make sure everything is running smoothly & everyone is happy & ok takes its toll. You find yourself constantly worrying…bills, kids, spouse, dinner, friends, career, on and on and on. What's worse is that in all the worrying and juggling you’ve lost yourself. This part right here is a nagging thought that stresses you out even more. You don’t even recognize who you are anymore or how you’ve gotten to this place. It’s beyond frustrating. I get it.

I recognize it can be hard to reach out for help as well as make the time and space for yourself during the everyday craziness of life. We often put everyone else ahead of our own needs and put ourselves last and our needs on hold. Time just seems to fly by and nothing changes. By the time we are looking for a therapist or reaching out for help, we are overwhelmed and need support now. You may feel exhausted and may not even know where to start to make things better.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
