I practice a relational form of counseling, which means I weigh heavily on how and why our relationships develop while taking into consideration the mental, physical and emotional associations we draw or conclude from these relationships. The relationship between therapist and client, the relationships you have had over the course of your life, issues and/or concepts you have faced or struggled with, and, most importantly, the relationship you have with yourself are all focal points for counseling. Trust and building rapport with your therapist is paramount and I work to cultivate an environment that promotes respect and self-exploration.

In therapy I don't just help people walk through their struggles, I help them discover what those problems are, and where they came from. In the office, I use psychodynamic, existential, and relational approaches to understand both why folks want to change, and why they haven't been able to, fully honoring that reluctance in order to make therapy enduring and empowering, ages 3 through 93, for families, couples, and individuals.

I help people feel better about their lives and relationships. In my 20 years as a therapist it has been gratifying to help my clients overcome depression and anxiety. In using a trauma treatment called Brain Spotting has been meaningful to me in helping people process and over-come significant traumas. I also specialize in couples therapy helping people move from conflict to resolution while developing the skills to feel more pleasure and connected in their relationship. Finally, I specialize in helping adolescents (ages 12 up) gain skills and confidence to be successful in school and peer / adult relationships.

As a psychologist, I offer psychotherapy to individuals experiencing a range of issues impacting their well-being, relationships, and functioning. I believe therapy ultimately involves a collaborative relationship between the therapist and client, which can provide healing, insight, and desired change. I endeavor to help my clients understand and work through 1) what has contributed to their distress, 2) what patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating (consciously or unconsciously) are maintaining their distress, 3) what barriers to change may be present, and 4) possible steps to take to bring change and relief.

I have a primary focus on depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment, and family issues, including divorce, and offer individual, couples and family counseling.
I graduated with a Master's degree of Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University in 2019. I am a Christian counselor operating through a Biblical worldview, placing emphasis on spiritual and mental health through a right relationship with Christ. It is my joy in life to walk alongside others as they identify the schemes and lies of the enemy and replace them with the truth of the freedom found in Christ. I have experience working with adults and teenagers, with a passion for adolescents trying to make their way out of high school and into careers, college, and marriage.

I also provide care in helping couples work on communication, intimacy, navigating conflict, handling financial stress, divorce/separation, infidelity, and parenting issues.
It takes a lot to be a person. Perhaps you've lost a loved one, are going through a stressful life transition, or live with regrets. Or maybe you've been hurt by someone you thought was safe to trust. Life can be difficult, and yet hope remains. We thrive most in our relationships and connections with others instead of struggling through life's most painful moments by ourselves. In our work together, I promise to give you my utmost commitment, unwavering support, and care toward helping you heal and grow from your deepest pains and struggles.

I approach every client with concern for immediate difficulties and symptoms, but also believe that one of the central tasks of therapy is to gain self knowledge and understanding. This might include acknowledging emotion, understanding avoidance, and identifying behavioral and relationship patterns. Research studies have demonstrated that focusing on relationships (past and present) increases the likelihood that therapeutic work will be effective.

I enjoy working with clients of all ages, from all cultural backgrounds and from all walks of life. I offer outreach therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups. After graduate school, I moved to Massachusetts, where I worked in both the traditional office setting, and in outreach, where I counseled clients in their homes. My lifelong love and appreciation for the outdoors called me to make a bold move to Montana. This is where I was exposed to the many opportunities to use my love of the outdoors to enrich the therapeutic process.

Positive, constant, change is at the heart of the therapeutic experience, taking small steps that add up to larger changes. I've worked in mental health for over a decade and have been a licensed therapist for over 8 years. In that time I've really come to understand how hard life can be on a day-to-day basis, much more so when you are struggling.

My concern is to help address the suffering people endure due to the current conflict in their lives as well as any past trauma. Suffering comes in many forms and can be understood as symptoms that negatively affect one's relationships, health, career, personal development and emotional life. I work with individuals to alleviate these difficulties and to deepen an understanding of the root causes in order to ensure ongoing personal satisfaction. This kind of treatment is designed to help identify and redirect conflicts in a person's life which are destructive or prohibit growth, and to liberate positive personal attributes from atrophy and inhibition.

You struggle with life’s stress. Striving to meet expectations is making you anxious, which can affect your health and even your motivation. As anxiety increases, you find yourself shutting down inside, creating walls in your relationships, managing through unhealthy activities, avoiding stressful situations or people.

Many events may bring us to a place where we realize change is needed to reduce our suffering and restore our strengths. It is my hope that I may assist you in exploring both the ways and direction that change may lead you. Although many types of paths may lead us into seeking guidance and support, it is my belief that the benefits of engaging in a process of change with a skilled therapist may lead to profound growth and healing.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
