I approach every client with concern for immediate difficulties and symptoms, but also believe that one of the central tasks of therapy is to gain self knowledge and understanding. This might include acknowledging emotion, understanding avoidance, or identifying behavioral and relationship patterns. Research studies have demonstrated that focusing on relationships (past and present) increases the likelihood that therapeutic work will be effective.
I began my first clinical internship in 2005, and have worked in various clinical roles since that time. I started my private practice in 2009, after working for several years in both college and community mental health centers. My training has included all of the major treatment modalities.
Many of my clients have been in therapy before, and have found their problems to be recurring. My approach emphasizes changes and psychological skills which endure and continue to strengthen, even after therapy ends.
