I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and adjustment for young adults and adults.
Do you find it hard to put yourself first in your relationships? Does it some times feel that no matter how hard you try, you struggle to find joy in every day life? Self care is so important for each person and if we neglect ourselves to care for others, we may have increases in depression and anxiety. Asking for help when things begin to feel overwhelming is the first step in finding the solution. Utilizing my years of training and experience, I have been able to help others “find themselves”, so that they can find the joy they so much deserve once again.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems, which is a modality that facilitates gaining insight into the various parts of oneself, including those that hold anxiety, shame, and sadness, and integrating these to develop a stronger sense of self.
I believe that everyone is resilient - and that constantly having to be strong can be exhausting. Through our work together, my goal is to honor that internal strength while also providing space for grieving, healing, and growing. I am passionate about supporting people that have lived through complex trauma and have been navigating their lives in survival mode. I work to help people re-establish a sense of safety within themselves, develop an understanding into how their experiences shaped them, and cultivate meaningful relationships.

Breaking harmful generational patterns and behaviors, assessing and attacking anxious and depressive symptoms, creating plans and implementing them are some of the things we can discuss and work on.
I am part of a group practice called Attention, Behavior and Cognition Psychological Services. www.abcholden.com The person reading this might be an individual or a parent trying to get some help managing mental health symptoms that are impacting their ability to function at home, school, or the community. Feeling the burden and stressors of the world is not an ideal baseline functioning level. Needing a place to be vulnerable, without judgement and unconditional acceptance is not just ideal but a reality within our sessions.

Life often throws curveballs and learning new ways to respond to stress can be one of the most important things we can do. I enjoy building relationships and watching others develop the skills they need to successfully overcome their challenges in life. Therapeutic work can be difficult, but I've found that a good sense of humor can go a long way.

I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults on a multitude of issues including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma and co-dependency.
Taking that first step is how it all changes. Working together as a team to becoming your ideal self is where change begins. Many express that they are feeling depleted, stressed and stuck in patterns detrimental to their health and overall well-being. They are ready to break free from those dysfunctional patterns and therapy is where we begin.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
