I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depression for adolescent and adults.
Do you find it hard to put yourself first in your relationships? Does it some times feel that no matter how hard you try, you struggle to find joy in every day life? Self care is so important for each person and if we neglect ourselves to care for others, we may have increases in depression and anxiety . Asking for help when things begin to feel overwhelming is the first step in finding the solution. Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Solution Focused Treatment I have been able to help others “find themselves”, so that they can find the joy they so much deserve once again.

*NEW CLIENTS ACCEPTED via TELEHEALTH* Ever feel like you have a way to do something, and though it does not work the way it seems like it should, you feel it “works for you?” Do you find that you have a way of behaving and struggle to break free from yourself? I find that humans act in patterns. We think about a problem and act in a way that is the most comfortable to us and tend to repeat these patterns regardless of the result. I work with people living with depression, anxiety , trauma, anger concerns, separation/loss/grief issues, and people coping with discrimination.

*Accepting new clients for daytime hours only. Return clients welcome. Please Email.* The most important thing to me is helping people reach their individualized healthy balance of clinical, emotional and personal goals in life. I pride myself in helping people to trust their mind, body (gut) and soul for positive changes. The biggest changes sometimes can be as simple as changing one or a few small realistic detail(s) on a very consistent basis, regardless of the topic. Therapy is a journey as unique as each individual and will be treated as such.

In my blended practice of mental health counseling and art therapy, I work with families, adults, and children, supporting them in identifying resources and strengths to regain emotional health. In sessions, we work together using the approach that best suits my clients' needs--- art therapy using hands-on creative projects to gently encourage self-expression and gain insight; cognitive behavioral therapy to positively shift thoughts and feelings; and dialectical behavior therapy to enhance mindfulness and increase resilience. Through this therapeutic work, clients develop ways to resolve their issues--- relieving depression, managing anxiety , positively changing behavior, processing trauma, healing from abuse.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
