He is a Tulane University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Master's Degree in Social Work with over 25 years of experience in mental health. John's knowledge and expertise includes crisis intervention, grief counseling, anger management, anxiety, depression, issues with sexual orientation, and assisting clients in adjusting to and coping with life changes. My approach to counseling is holistic and based on the client's needs. I use methodology from humanistic psychology, person-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioral therapy. I help clients identify hidden strengths and discover obstacles to a more meaningful life. I work with the client on building an authentic therapeutic relationship where the client is seen as the expert in her/his own life. I do this in a compassionate, safe, and nonjudgmental process. I am effective in working with people who seek short-term, solution-focused therapy as well as longer-term therapeutic goals.

I have been providing psychotherapy to clients in my private practice, hospital environments and college environments for over 25 years. I received my PhD from Tulane University and formerly held an adjunct professor position at Tulane. I help individuals discover resiliency, confidence, meaning and coping skills in the face of life transitions. As a mostly Adlerian therapist, I will help clients to explore their behavior patterns which may be interfering with attaining their goals. In order to do this, together we will examine each individual's readiness for change, how fear/anxiety plays a role in keeping them from changing behaviors and explore interpersonal/family relationships.
