With a decade of behavioral health experience, published research in trauma and substance abuse, and a harnessed passion for healing, I offer confidence, non-judgemental compassion, honesty, and hope for us as we tend to the distress of living. Together we explore the beliefs you have about yourself, relationships, and the broader social collective. We develop strategies for uncovering your unique authenticity, and for promoting a personal sense of authority and safety. My approach is trauma-informed, DBT emboldened, and culturally sensitive.

Change takes effort. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help you make that change. CBT is like finding a map to a more ideal life and learning that life is much closer than you had thought. This form of therapy teaches you how to change your thinking, with an initial focus on improving the here-and-now with smaller focus on the past. Practice is essential and CBT involves work, but that work often yields results. CBT can help improve mood, reduce anxiety and fears, change unhelpful behaviors, make relationships better, and lead to a richer, more satisfying life.

I work with individuals 18 years and older who are interested in working on customized goals in a collaborative manner. This practice is intended to provide clients a motivational and affirming experience as they choose Outcomes they wish to achieve. The intention is to help clients demonstrate resilience as they learn new ways to effect positive change in their lives. My approach is engagement, exploration and success. Success is reaching the Outcomes YOU set for yourself. Once you have in mind a basic idea of where you want to be, you will begin to move toward it.

I am committed to meeting you where you are. I work hard to understand and validate what it is like to be you. So, your goals for therapy are the crucial foundation for our work together. If you experience that I really do understand and validate you and your goals, then I believe you will allow me to challenge you in helpful ways when it becomes difficult to make significant changes that you want to make. I also believe that work with at least five dimensions (MIND, BODY, SOUL, SYSTEM, and STORY) in an organic and natural way can help you succeed in meeting your goals, even if other approaches have not been successful.

My focus as a clinician can be described as a mindfulness and compassion approach. Together with my clients and their families I work toward bringing awareness to the presenting behaviors, environments, strengths, and impairments. Having an initial awareness can allow a person to understand the underlying motives of their behavior as well as reasons for discomfort or pain and, if desired, make the necessary changes. I work with my clients and their families to honor past experiences as well as plan a forward direction utilizing both successes and failures.

My approach to counseling is holistic and based on the client's needs. I use methodology from humanistic psychology, person-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioral therapy. I help clients identify hidden strengths and discover obstacles to a more meaningful life. I work with the client on building an authentic therapeutic relationship where the client is seen as the expert in her/his own life. I do this in a compassionate, safe, and nonjudgmental process. I am effective in working with people who seek short-term, solution-focused therapy as well as longer-term therapeutic goals.

Beginning therapy can be one of the most challenging, and rewarding, quality of life decisions a person can make. I believe the rapport between therapist and client to be the foundation for promoting awareness, insight and personal growth for present struggles and identifying the role long standing patterns play. Using client’s existing strengths, my clients and I develop coping strategies through a collaborative approach, and work toward achieving greater balance and healthier patterns. I work with a wide range of couples, adults and young adults.

I am not able to take new clients at this time. Recognizing that you cannot handle something on your own takes a lot of courage. My goal is to understand you and what you have experienced in your life that has led to difficult times. I will assist you in identifying what changes can be made in order to lead a happier and healthier life. I view the therapeutic relationship as non-judgmental, safe, and supportive. It's not my goal to tell you how to change or better your life, but to go on the journey with you and explore how making effective changes can lead to a happier you.

While change can be an exciting invitation for growth and deeper self-discovery, life’s transitions can also feel disorienting and overwhelming. If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. I’m here to listen and to help you develop coping skills for navigating the uncertainties and complexities of this moment. I support adults and adolescents (ages 18 & up) who are adjusting to change in their life and experiencing related stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and relational or behavioral challenges.

Most of my clients are ordinary people who have been sexually abused as children or adults, or are from alcoholic families, or are struggling with alcoholism in their current life. They may be having difficulty adjusting to changing circumstaaances in their lives due to divorce or loss of a family member or friend. Many of my clients are experiencing depression or anxiety or chronic worry.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
