NEW clients WELCOME! I’m Elizabeth, or Liz for short. I am experienced in working with trauma. This is a commonly used word and there are many definitions for it. What I mean is that I help people who have gone through events in their lives, whether singular or reoccurring, that have caused parts of their personality to separate from other parts. This could be experienced through relational conflict, addictive tendencies, dissociation, sex, drugs, procrastination, a lack of motivation, inner conflict, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping or eating. My approach is somatic and relational, working with what shows up in the present moment.

As the world has changed, many of us have come to crossroads in our lives. When in isolation we have been forced to look closely at the relationships we value, the activities we enjoy, and what we wish to change. In the age of social media, the culture of comparison has dominated our inner psyches and altered our abilities to obtain lasting happiness. In our work together, I want to provide you with a warm, thoughtful, socioculturally-attuned, and collaborative environment. Here, we can explore your individual needs, the belief systems you hold, and your hopes for the future.

Therapy to me, in the most basic of senses, is about what is possible when two people form a genuine relationship. That is what I strive to do with my clients, show up as my full self and use what I have learned to help support them however they want to be helped. In my experience, when two people show up as their full selves and are willing to put in the work, moments of insight occur that reverberate outside of the therapeutic space and change lives for the better: anxieties begin to lessen, the heaviness of depression begins to feel lighter, life transitions feel less overwhelming and more manageable.

If you struggle to feel secure in your relationships you're in the right place. Do you ever feel like you're walking on eggshells in your relationships? Every disagreement triggers a wave of anxiety, making you wonder if this is the end. You desperately want to express your needs, but the fear of sparking a fight keeps you silent. The constant tiptoeing around conflict is exhausting & keeps you people pleasing. Here's the beautiful truth: you don't have to stay stuck in this cycle. Imagine being able to express yourself clearly, to navigate conflicts with respect & understanding, & to feel deeply loved in your relationships.

My passion as a therapist is to help people feel less misunderstood and more empowered, less stifled and more fully themselves. I use a mindfulness-focused, strengths-based approach to help people get to the root of their problems and untangle subconscious conditioning that no longer serves them. Healing is an ongoing journey of becoming conscious of the parts of ourselves we often resist meeting. Together we will dive deep to address the symptoms and patterns that arose as coping mechanisms formed in early childhood development that may be preventing you from experiencing life to your fullest potential.

I help individuals and couples understand and transform deeply rooted patterns. Some walk through my door in profound distress, while others seek relief from a persistent sense of unease and dissatisfaction. I listen closely for the ideas and experiences shaping important aspects of your life, such as family, friends, work, sexuality, creativity, and self-worth. And together, we explore the ups and downs of your thoughts and feelings, with a focus on how current experiences and past traumas may be restricting your capacity for growth, self-expression, satisfaction, fulfilling relationships, and meaningful work.

I am passionate about the resiliency of the human spirit in healing from trauma, forming and healing relationships, & finding our way through life’s transitions. I view therapy as a tool to create a safe space to show up authentically and work toward living the life you seek. I work with children (8 & up), teens, adults, & couples who are addressing trauma, issues of identity or self-esteem, anxiety, recovering from narcissistic, sexual, or intimate partner abuse, having difficulty with dating/relationships, & working through divorce, separation, co-parenting, & blending families. Otis, my office dog, usually joins me for sessions.

I want to feel better. I want to be closer to my partner. I don't know what I want to do in my life. I keep saying I'm going to start... (fill in the blank) and I get on my phone, I eat, drink or shop too much. I need more balance. I need to be heard and stop being numb. I want to enjoy life and relationships more.

If you’re reading this, that probably means that you are in a place where you have tried a lot of things to feel better, or help your loved one feel better and just don’t know what else to do. I would love to help support you on this journey. Therapy is a collaboration between two individuals (therapist and client) and when successful, truly amazing things can occur within this space. I use the relationship between my clients and I to help them build insight and awareness into the way they show up in the world.

My role as a psychotherapist is to accompany people on their courageous journeys of healing, discovery, and self-expression. I enjoy working with individuals who are curious and inspired to take their inner work seriously. I believe that the narratives we tell about ourselves hold tremendous power and that, through our work together, we can become more conscious of how these stories shape our lives in order to find opportunities for new understanding and meaning making. As a depth psychotherapist, I have reverence for the wisdom of psyche, the unconscious, to help guide us to explore parts of ourselves in order to become more whole.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
