If you or your child are suffering from an OCD or an anxiety disorder, you are not alone. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness and yet most sufferers do not have access to effective treatment. The good news is that if you or your loved one is troubled with unwanted thoughts or worries, physical symptoms due to anxiety, perfectionism, phobias, health fears, or any other anxiety, there is help. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and more specifically exposure therapy has repeatedly shown to be the most effective approach for defeating anxiety and OCD.

Hi there, I’m Aly! I am passionate about helping my clients move from surviving to thriving. I work hard to create an atmosphere of balance and self-acceptance. I want you to be able to break free from the vicious cycle of trying to be perfect, “failing”, then trying it all over again. My primary focus areas include eating disorders/disordered eating, anxiety, life transitions, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Not only do I have years of professional experience and training regarding these struggles, but I also have years of personal experience and recovery!

I have been trained in exposure and response prevention (ERP) for treating OCD, which is considered the first-line treatment for OCD.
I value a collaborative approach to therapy, where we work together to set goals that work for you. Maybe you’re seeking support for a diagnosis such as anxiety, depression, or OCD. You might struggle with a history of invalidation, or other interpersonal concerns. Maybe you struggle with executive dysfunction, and are having trouble turning your motivation into action, or maybe you need help building that motivation. Maybe you aren’t quite sure yet what you want to work on in therapy. No matter what brings you in, your story is unique, and I am dedicated to tailoring your therapy experience to your unique situation.

My specialties include OCD, anxiety disorders, and depression.
I have been in practice for over 30 years, and for the past 20 I have specialized in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. While I am skilled in the traditional treatment methods of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) I also have extensive training in an innovative approach to OCD called Inference Based CBT (ICBT). Through ICBT I have had the privilege of helping clients who had only limited success in prior OCD treatment finally achieve freedom from this distressing disorder. I work with teens and adults of all ages, and my style is warm, inviting, and collaborative.

My role will never be to tell you what to do; rather we will work together to find the perfect solution for you. I accept clients from all backgrounds, identities, and cultures. I have a warm welcome for those of the LGBTQ+ community along with open relationship structures/polyamory. Areas of most experience include anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction (harm reduction model, preferably). It's humbling to choose a career that decreases suffering and improves quality of life. Being able to celebrate those moments when I see hope in the lives of others gives me a sense of fulfillment. Therapy is a form of treatment that takes time, but you will progress if you work hard and take ownership of your treatment. “A journey of one thousand miles begins with the first step.”

I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, OCD, high achievers, burnout, perfectionism, grief, parenting, and coping with chronic illnesses.
Feeling stuck and having trouble engaging with what really matters to you? Your brain has done an excellent job keeping you safe, but some strategies developed as a reaction to stressors may no longer meet your needs. Issues like family of origin discord, medical illnesses, neurodiversity, and stressful work environments can all add up to impact our relationship with ourselves and others. I especially love working with high achievers who have issues with perfectionism, burnout, dissociation, attachment, and procrastination.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
