As a queer and polyamorous therapist, I am passionate about working with queer and trans people, polyamorous individuals and relationships, kink and BDSM communities, and folks living life outside the religious traditions they were raised in. I particularly enjoy working with couples who are exploring opening their relationship or otherwise restructuring their relationship. I also work with triads, polycules, metamours, and other non-monogamous relationship configurations around communication and conflict, jealousy and insecurity, dating and breakups, and rethinking relationships.

I believe that forming a strong client-therapist relationship is at the heart of making change, so I am intentional about bringing my authentic self, creativity, and sense of humor to sessions.
I am passionate about helping people navigate challenging interpersonal relationships, process family of origin trauma, and develop mindfulness skills to cope with anxiety, OCD, phobias, and body image struggles. Many of my adult clients tend to be curious about how their upbringings have shaped them, have some “perfectionistic” or “people-pleasing” tendencies, be part of public service professions (e.g., teachers, social workers, etc.), feel “separate” or “different” from other people, and/or identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I also work with children and adolescents using art and play therapy techniques!

We all need support in our lives and on our journeys, whether the journey is navigating a divorce emotionally intact, a sojourn through grief and loss of a loved one/job/identity/health, healing from complex trauma, or a journey of self actualization. I work with clients to assist them through a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting obstacles, career challenges, and communication problems. I also work with many people who have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, trauma, and survivors of suicide.

I offer a relationship based approach that identifies lagging skills so your family feels more balanced & calm.
You are feeling overwhelmed & frustrated by your child's tears, yelling, and fearfulness. You want to experience joy with your child & feel hopeful about the future. But, you're worried about your child's reactions to disappointments & frustration. Even mealtimes, bedtimes, and going to school feel like power struggles. You notice your child seems unhappy or angry, but are not sure what is going on. It's tough to balance everything when your child needs so much and it's affecting your sleep, work and other relationships. You love your child more than anything, but it's just so hard right now.

I most often work with clients who are dealing with relationship and communication issues, anxiety, non-monogamy/opening their relationships, chronic illness, identity exploration, queerness, and kink/BDSM.
Are you feeling like it’s hard to authentically be yourself or connect with others? As a relational therapist, I recognize that our connections are the basis of both the greatest struggles and the greatest rewards we can know as humans. I specialize in work with couples, families, and individuals who have "non-traditional" relationships and sexualities. My work with clients is open and collaborative, often using narrative therapy, attachment theory, and systems theory to help people flesh out their sense of identity and strengths. You can expect transparency, a culturally-attuned lens, and a little humor in therapy with me.

My clinical areas of specialty include sex and sexuality, reproductive mental health concerns (e.g. postpartum mood and anxiety concerns, navigating infertility, perimenopause & menopause, PMDD, etc), anxiety/mood, and relationship challenges. Some folks I work with also might describe themselves as sensitive, deep thinkers/feelers. Overall, I often support clients in growing self-compassion, increasing self-awareness, living more aligned with their values, and in creating a life that feels sustainable and meaningful.

Building resiliency isn't always about overcoming the mountain sized obstacles. Sometimes, its about overcoming the desire to stay in bed all day, or have popcorn for dinner the fifth day in a row, or have just one more drink at the end of the day. Trauma, and its positive counter-part- Healing, is within each of us. Cultivating a positive support system and partnership is all about accessing the natural power you hold within yourself. Within each individual, and couple, embracing healing is possible. I believe in empowering people to build a relationship with themselves in such a way that they develop internal trust and reliance.

Another is my belief that the most important component of our counseling relationship is the “fit” between the us.
"When the winds of change blow, some people build walls. Others build windmills." ....... Change. It is unavoidable. All people share this truth. Whether we choose it or not, life will change. We live. We adapt. We learn. Yet life teaches us another truth; that we are not alone. We are inherently social, loving beings. Our lives are embedded in many kinds of relationships. Sometimes those relationships are swimming happily along and sometimes not so much. The good news is that these truths about change and relationships enable us to grow. Whatever stage we are in, wherever our world is at, we aim to live with richness and joy.

Angry, anxious, confused, or depressed because of relationship problems? Feel your partner never listens to you? Keep having the same old fights over and over? Imago Relationship Therapy is very helpful in restoring connection, safety, and romance. As a Certified Imago Therapist I enable each partner to be heard and understood so the needs of each can be met. Usually couples experience some immediate relief from the pain of alienation and begin to rediscover the love that brought them together. If your spouse won't come for counseling, come alone! I also do individual therapy, including EMDR for trauma resolution..

I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe and welcoming space to enter where they can work on whatever is on their mind without having to be concerned about what the therapist thinks or feels. Coming to therapy can be difficult because it can mean having to face some difficult truths and realizations. Your well-being is important, and you don't have to face your struggles alone. Whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or any other concern, there are therapists who are ready to listen. Together, we will work at a pace that is appropriate and manageable to achieve your goals.

Whether you are interested in learning coping strategies for symptoms, or need to work on a complex relationship with yourself and/or others, I can help.
I believe you are capable of unprecedented growth and healing. I work together with my clients to develop curiosity and compassion for themselves and others; acceptance of feelings, healthy boundaries, and more adaptive and satisfying ways of being in the world. My approach to therapy prioritizes developing an understanding of who you are as an individual, and focusing on your unique strengths and abilities. Past and present experiences, relationships, genetics, biology all impact the way you are in the world, but you have something unique to offer.

It's a crap shoot trying to choose a therapist, and you’ve been through this before. You've gone to therapy but felt like the counselor didn't get you, or you're looking for more depth and a different perspective to address low mood, anxiety, self image, grief, boundaries, relationship with food and your body, or life transitions and transformations. Maybe you're wondering why relationships feel unsatisfying and you'd like to cultivate more pleasurable experiences and interactions. Perhaps you’re seeking a sense of alignment and cohesiveness between thoughts and feelings.

I have been working for over 20 years as a therapist and utilize the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for change- this remains the bedrock of my work. As a result, if the client does not feel we are the right fit on the first session I do not charge the client for the initial visit. I feel it is important for my clients to determine if I am the right fit for them.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
