Along with this, I collaborate with parents/guardians and siblings who are part of the family system, helping individuals learn to cope, adapt, adjust, to whatever experiences you have faced.
Let's be honest, therapy isn't the first choice for most people. If, however, you are in a place where this might seem like a good option, I'd appreciate the opportunity to work with you. Whether it is personal issues or you're having difficulties with your spouse, significant other, parent, or child(ren). Or, maybe you just need some support with a transition in life. I enjoy working with people from all walks and stages of life and while change is up to you, know that I'm willing to be in your corner along the way. In addition to myself, we have a team of 13 other providers ready and wiling to help in any way we can.

When possible, my goal is to work with the individual and their family or partner to work toward strengthening relationship dynamics in order to improve mental health of both the client and the entire family system.
Feeling down, anxious, or stuck? I specialize in treating anxiety and depression using compassionate, evidence-based treatments (IFS and EMDR). We will work together to decrease symptoms of anxiety or depression, move forward from stuck feelings or traumatic memories, improve relationships, and increase self-compassion. Ultimately we will rediscover your core self — who you really are when anxiety and depression take a backseat.

I’m not just a therapist who took 1 or 2 courses in marriage and family in grad school.
Feeling like you just can’t do it anymore? You and your partner are caught in the cycle of chasing or backing away. We all get caught in our cycles within our relationships. And sometimes we are so caught in the havoc that we just don’t know what to do anymore to make things better. We begin to feel hopeless and don’t seem to find the right words without getting into another fight. The round and round never seems to stop. We all need our partners to be accessible to us, responsive to our needs, and engaged with us. We all need to know the answer to ‘Are you there for me?’ The answer may confirm our worst fears.

My areas of clinical experience include, family preservation, domestic violence, couples, veteran populations, and addiction treatment.
It is my belief that as humans, we are wired for connection and community. Adverse life experiences can bring us to a place of isolation and addiction. One of the greatest experiences as a therapist is watching others overcome and grow through adversity, along with the resilience it takes to do so. Maybe you feel stuck in your issues or feel unsure of the next steps.. My purpose as a therapist is to create space for you to build the life you want and a self acceptance that highlights your innate worth.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
