I work with tweens; adolescents; individuals; married, partnered, or same gender couples; families and 'dyads' in family systems.
I believe in the power of synergy! Collaborating together on your concerns, increases the potential for change. You are the expert of you and I am a facilitator of change. Together, we will work on an approach for moving through areas in your life where you feel stuck. Anxiety, depression, low self esteem or relationship challenges need a pro-active perspective. Identifying, eradicating and replacing your sources of pain with mindfulness and intentional balance will bring more joy into your life.

I have a natural ability to help clients gain insight into what they need for a healthy family system.
I have 20 years' combined experience working with culturally, ethnically and generationally diverse clients in therapy, chemical use, restorative justice, and counseling children and families in need. I'm dedicated to enthusiastic, respectful and dynamic interactions as a means of creating and nurturing community interest. As a psychotherapist and LADC, I've worked with adults, adolescents, and families from all walks of life. My goal is to foster well-being in individuals and families. I seek to eliminate the stigma of shame and guilt associated with mental health and substance use, which leads to understanding, respectful conversations that enable healing.

I do couple & family counseling.
I've been working with adults and teens for over 47 years. My approach is empathic, direct, and thoughtful. Given I have a wide background in my training, I adapt my therapeutic approach to your needs. I find that effective therapy is a collaborative approach where we work together to understand your concerns, their origins and most importantly what can be done to bring about both the internal and behavioral changes that will be beneficial to you. My goal in therapy is to help integrate your shame and vulnerabilities into a healthy identity grounded in self-esteem and pride.

I have advanced training in developmental and relational trauma (family of origin), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (trauma), Internal Family Systems (parts of self), mindfulness and somatic approaches.
Therapy is a process of investigation and change, looking deeply at what works and what doesn't work. While some answers may lie in the past, you and I will work together to understand your life, relationships, and desire for change as they are right now. Change begins the moment you recognize the need for it. I have the skills, compassion, and desire to help you explore new possibilities and practice the change you want. Examples of issues I have worked with include depression and anxiety, infertility, life transitions, relationship difficulties, parenting, and family of origin and attachment issues.

I often utilize Transpersonal Psychology theory, Psychosynthesis, Internal Family Systems/Systems theory, and Mindfulness in session.
Welcome! Being human is a beautiful and vulnerable experience that doesn't always have directions or clear answers. You may be here because you feel struck in patterns that are holding you back or feel overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed in your daily life. You may be seeking help because you feel stuck in your relationship(s) or want to feel more free in your sexuality or sexual identity and are unsure how to proceed. And if you are a highly sensitive and/or nuero-diverse person, the world can feel complicated! If you are longing to live authentically and experience meaningful relationships, you've come to the right place!

I work in English and Spanish and have experience with multicultural family systems.
Currently accepting new clients. My approach to therapy is person-centered, collaborative and dynamic. I see it as my role to help you pause and reflect, and challenge the schemas that may be keeping you stuck in undesired patterns of behavior. While therapy is serious work, it’s also important to laugh at the absurd moments and try to enjoy the journey as we walk it together. If you're struggling with relationships, feeling unheard or confused, reeling from a traumatic event or history, or experiencing a loss, we can work through these issues at your pace. Unable to write ESA or workers accommodation letters.

Are you overwhelmed with navigating pressures from family, culture and society? Is it hard to find someone who can understand the intersections of your identity and life experiences? My BIPOC clients often tell me about the emotional fatigue of having to explain their stories to mainstream providers. This takes the focus away from healing. They want strategies that honor their deep narratives and tools that respect their heritage and cultural wisdom. If you see yourself in any of these struggles, I invite you to schedule a free consultation with me to reclaim your story.

I offer therapy for a variety of mental health issues and have an extensive background in depth psychology and Jungian therapy. I enjoy working with individuals who are interested in deeply understanding themselves. In contrast to mainstream approaches to therapy, which focus on teaching skills or challenging a person's thinking, I emphasize working to understand the emotional-relational-spiritual roots of my client's psychology. It is at this deeper level that lasting change can occur.

I work from an integral perspective and understand human experience within a developmental framework that includes inner and outer experience, varying levels of ego or self organization, and personal as well as transpersonal experience. My work is informed by the idea that while suffering is a part of the human experience, so is healing, growth, transformation.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
