About

I've been working with adults and teens for over 44 years. My approach is empathic, direct, and thoughtful. Given I have a wide background in my training, I adapt my therapeutic approach to your needs. I find that effective therapy is a collaborative approach where we work together to understand your concerns, their origins and most importantly what can be done to bring about both the internal and behavioral changes that will be beneficial to you. My goal in therapy is to help integrate your shame and vulnerabilities into a healthy identity grounded in self-esteem and pride.
I work with all types of addictions, depression, anxiety, personality disorders and grief. I do couple & family counseling. I've been trained in sex therapy, clinical hypnosis, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Over my entire career I have served as a faculty member training other therapists at the University of Minnesota and Capella University.
I work in an office suite at my home in the Uptown area of south Minneapolis. It is a warm, very private and comfortable setting. It is easy to park here and convenient to get to. I also office in Crosslake, MN ~ it is a comfy place with a great lake view. Please let me answer questions about my therapeutic style, insurance or any other questions you have.

Bruce E Fischer's Groups

Women's Therapy Group

For over 37 years, I have been leading a caring and supportive group for women. Members generally come to the group after having experienced a turning point in their lives or finding that they are faced with challenges that can no longer be ignored. For example, women come in the wake of the ending of a relationship, depression, chronic anxiety, parenting difficulties, struggles with low self-esteem, a lack of identity, unresolved grief, unrelenting shame, chronic physical symptoms, sexual concerns, difficulty with assertiveness, financial issues, and/or unresolved issues with the family of origin. The group is currently facilitated over Zoom.

These include anxiety, anger issues, depression, grief/loss, bipolar disorder, shame, and challenges with parenting, difficulty identifying & expressing emotion, relationship concerns, divorce, alcohol & drug problems, and career concerns. The group can be helpful in assisting men in feeling more connected, improving and deepening interpersonal relationships, and increasing the capacity for healthy intimacy. Call me if you have questions about the group, availability, fees, or to schedule an intake interview. The group is currently meeting via Zoom.
