Oftentimes, we carry the weight of our past, and past traumas that have not been fully resolved and they distort our present by continuously replaying in our relationships, with family, work and everyday life.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important steps in developing trust and faith in your journey to seek clarity and healing within your life. I will provide you with a space that is safe, nonjudgmental, accepting and supportive to help you explore yourself more deeply which will enable you to draw new meanings to your experiences. This will be a collaborative effort working together toward your treatment goals. So often, we feel alone and just want to be heard and listened too, and then to find out we are anything but alone. I will be there with you through this journey.

Breathe! I got you...In a world filled with constant change and uncertainty it is easy to forget to breathe, slow down and check-in with yourself. The daily grind, career dissatisfaction, family demands, strained relationships, past and current trauma, self-doubt…the list goes on. Let me be your guide on a journey into true freedom and overall satisfaction in all areas of your life. We will explore your historical blueprint and recreate a design that is authentically yours. A blueprint guided by fearlessness and healing rather than fear, self-doubt and recycled patterns that no longer serve you.

My practice includes listening from a psychodynamic perspective (understanding family and intergenerational dynamics) , focusing on the here and now through somatic and mindfulness techniques, developing a person's intuition, and understanding how a person relates to people in their life through the therapeutic relationship.
It is brave to choose how you want to craft your life. Many people are struggling through big life transitions, are unhappy in their relationships, or they want to move past anxiety and depression. Therapy is a place to understand what is happening now, and how to create something different and better to feel more satisfied. If this is you, I offer a space to look at and understand what is happening in your life, and how you can regain a sense of agency to create what you want. I am warm and engaging, and together we find patterns in your life that keep showing up and getting in your way. We look at how to cultivate what you want.

I also incorporate my knowledge gained from my own therapy and training, parenting three teenagers, my marriage, family history, workshop leader and author of "How to Manage Your Depression with Exercise" into our sessions.
Feeling heard -- with thoughtfulness and curiosity -- and being challenged, helps you develop insight and strategies for life changes. Patients tell me they appreciate the rewards of our collaborative process, and their lives show the benefits. Together, we will explore your life, deciphering your concerns and building upon your strengths. We will look at anxious, dark or self-critical thoughts that may be the source of problematic behaviors, and identify patterns and solutions. We will work together to help you achieve happiness and success. Of note, I was voted as one of the areas' best therapists in the Washingtonian Magazine.

Just as you don't click with every person you meet in the world, you won't mesh with every therapist. And I want to make sure you have a good experience in therapy! As a career changer myself, I work well with professionals who are feeling stuck in certain areas of their life and can't seem to figure it out with the same tools they have used in the past. I love to assist people in mobilizing strengths they already have (like being analytical) and building new capacities (like sitting with tough emotions and listening to the body). Trauma, relationships, family dynamics, identity, and sexual concerns come up a lot in our sessions.

I deeply relate to the pressure and responsibility of changing jobs, moving to new cities, and caring for family.
Do you: Feel stuck and unable to move forward? Want to perform better under pressure? Feel overwhelmed and anxious? I help people manage the tension between what one has already achieved and what one still ought to accomplish. Together we explore questions about why powerful feelings and thoughts emerge, and how these emotions can be expressed and attended to in the most beneficial way.

I have experience working with clients in a number of different areas including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship abuse, family conflict, and career and life transitions.
I believe that the foundation of therapy starts with a trusting relationship characterized by honesty, warmth, and empathy. Once this foundation is established, we will work together to confront personal challenges, explore your strengths, and set therapeutic goals. I will use a variety of techniques tailored to your specific needs in order to guide our sessions. My hope is that our work together will leave you feeling a greater sense of empowerment and self-compassion and provide you with a useful set of tools that you can implement outside of the therapeutic setting.

In my practice, I utilize components of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Positive Psychology and more to aid in the self-discovery and healing process.
Has anyone ever mentioned that you're stronger than you think? Let's be real, sometimes being resilient feels like you're running a never-ending marathon. Each time you conquer one obstacle, another one pops up out of nowhere. Or maybe you've been wrestling with the same issues for what feels like forever, with no sign of relief in sight. It's only natural to wonder, "When will things start looking up for me?" and "Will I ever start feeling better? " Trust me, I get it! I am not merely the therapist sitting across the screen from you - truth be told, I have been you.

Navigating adulthood as a 20- or 30-something is not something we're taught and can leave us feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and disconnected. You may be asking yourself: Is adulting supposed to be this tough? Why does everyone but me seem to have it all figured out? I know I’m too hard on myself, but how else will I improve and finally start to feel “good enough?” If I'm aware of the patterns that keep getting in my way, why is it so hard to change them? You are not alone in feeling stuck, anxious, and lost right now. If it feels like you’ve tried everything and the support of family and friends isn't enough, it’s time for a change.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
