I specialize in working with eating disorders, body image distress, low self esteem, and anxiety, and the ways in which those experiences can isolate us from each other, our environments, and ourselves.
Do you long for freedom to show up differently in your relationship with yourself, including your relationship with food, your body, and the way you relate to the natural world? Hello! I'm Sara (she/her). I can help you reconnect with your authenticity, break free from behaviors, and meet yourself with more compassion as you journey toward full, embodied recovery. By gaining a deeper understanding of who you are, we will begin to help you move from a place of connection and desire, rather than a place of fear. Together we will uncover the patterns that keep you stuck, learning the old story to make space for a new one to unfold.

I have worked with adults who are experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, life transitions, anger, trauma, divorce, and other difficult life circumstances.
Socrates wrote, “A life unexamined is not worth living.” So many of us are faced with challenges that are overwhelming and exhausting. And yet, when we offer ourselves the gift of introspection and support, beautiful things can emerge from our struggle.

I understand that achieving emotional stability is a priority for you. Life can throw many challenges your way, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and defeated. Breaking out of the depression and anxiety cycle is even more frustrating when it feels like the obstacles just keep stacking up. Yet everyone deserves to live their best life and so do you. You want so badly to get your life back and to do things differently so that the next time these old familiar feelings creep up, you have what it takes to ride with wave with clarity and confidence.

I enjoy working with people struggling with depression, anxiety and overcoming trauma.
I have retired my private practice and am no longer seeing clients. My way of working with people has been shaped by experiences in the field for close to 30 years. I use a pscychodynamic approach that is humanistic, compassionate, empathic. I believe that people can heal each other and that healing can occur through psychotherapy. We all have ways in which we organize our experiences based on things that have happened to us.

My aim to unburden anxiety, feelings of loneliness, negative self-image, depression, grief, complex family and relational dynamics, and feelings of ‘stuckness’ and helplessness sits at the forefront of my mission.
We are all becoming. Becoming more confident, more weighed down by the stressors of life and our relationships, more independent, and more unsure of our identity or place in the world. And the most confusing part: all of those ‘becomings’ are happening at the same time. How are we able to celebrate the joys in our worlds while feeling tied to pressures that are both external to us and internal, hitting close to vulnerable wounds? Welcome to Becoming Therapy Services. By engaging in open and collaborative dialogue, we will use tools to help discover the stories that deserve a voice and parts of you that exist beyond the surface.

I also use EMDR and CBT to address anxiety and trauma.
Healing and growth takes place in the context of relationships - both in our relationship with ourselves, and in our relationships with others. Unfortunately, sometimes our relationships become distant, disconnected and a place of conflict, leaving us with unmet needs and just feeling “stuck.” We don’t feel safe asking for what we need, and maybe don’t even know what we need ourselves. The therapeutic relationship in counseling provides an authentic and safe place in which healing can begin to take place.

I specialize in working with those who have depression, anxiety, academic/occupational challenges, and interpersonal difficulties.
I see the therapeutic process as a relationship between you and I where we begin to explore one's patterns, relationships, strengths, and challenges. In such exploration, one can find a deeper understanding of him/herself in order to move forward with a happy and productive life. My role is a partner, guide, and witness to your journey of becoming a more fulfilled you. I believe everyone is doing their best to survive and find happiness in their lives. Sometimes, our efforts can lead to maladaptive patterns. Therapy helps illuminate these patterns and guide you to develop new ones.

I work with adults and couples who want to build more fulfilling relationships and less anxious lives. You're feeling anxious, like you have to be perfect, and you're overwhelmed with all of the demands. You're stuck in the same relational patterns and past wounds continue to resurface. As a couple, you may find yourself having the same argument and feeling disconnected. Relationships expose our deepest wounds, fears, desires, and needs. I enjoy working with people struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, relationship issues, and attachment trauma.

Therapy is your opportunity to discover and uncover the best things about yourself, while facing the things that feel like they're getting in the way. I’d like to think of myself as your guide through self-compassion, acceptance, and a better relationship with your body. I support individuals and their families who feel suffocated by their inner critic, anxiety, overwhelm, poor body image, depression, doubt, and fear. Through the use of IFS, ACT, CBT, DBT, and deep self-compassion work, I support adolescents and young adults in becoming their truest, most authentic selves.

Through this approach, I have witnessed many find solace and heal from issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, challenges in relationships, and even psychosis and schizophrenia.
It is my belief that we all have an innate desire to connect, feel heard, and be understood. My therapeutic approach is grounded in this belief, and it is my hope that we will create a meaningful therapy that is validating and encouraging, yet simultaneously challenging enough to be a catalyst for meaningful growth. Because change often occurs as a byproduct of a connected and understanding relationship, a critical task of therapy is to help you explore, understand, and challenge what meanings you have made of your experiences, and in so doing, facilitate a new experience of yourself or your relationships.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
