You are a gift. A miracle. You were born a champion! You were born and brought into this world in pure love. As we experience our life, things happen that cause us to shift from that pure love to emotional discord. As a result, we grow apart from our true self, that pure love. For some, emotional disturbances or conditions develop such as anxiety, depression, anger, negative thinking or self-doubt. I have 25 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults using traditional therapy and cutting edge non-traditional techniques that will help you get you to your goal.

I provide therapy with a holistic approach. We will look at all aspects of your life both past and present and use practical, proven effective treatment. I also believe critical to treatment is feeling accepted and cared for by your provider. We can't always choose our burdens, but we can choose how we carry them. Some of us learned the only way to protect ourselves was to isolate, not getting out of bed, endlessly scrolling, and pulling away from the world. Some learned to be on alert, plan for the worst, be ready to fight, and never let their guard down. The good news is we aren't destined to repeat the same patterns for the rest of our lives. Learning to trust ourselves and protecting ourselves in healthy ways rather than harmful ways is possible and closer than we may think.

Sigmund Freud once said, “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.” For me, this quote has always encapsulated one of the most important aspects of mental health. I believe that our ability to grow comes from our ability to heal; and for us to heal we need to be able to cope with our deepest struggles. It is in the act of opening up that we make our day-to-day existence an opportunity to develop as people; it’s how we become more resilient, and in the process of being vulnerable with others, we learn to love ourselves.

Emily Dickinson’s poem “Not in Vain”, hung on my wall growing up and I often think its essence seeped into my being. She wrote, “If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain: If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain”. As therapists, we choose to work within the world of emotions and behaviors, learning healthy techniques to bring balance to our mind, body, and spirit. Counseling is a judgement free setting, with an objective listener; where everyone is welcome and can be supported.

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become" - Carl Jung. We can reclaim our story and take back our power by choosing to heal. I would love to be part of reshaping your story into one that is worthy of you. I am an EMDR trained licensed mental health counselor with experience: treating depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and trauma. As a Black woman, I am aware of the emotional distress caused by systematic oppression often inflicted on people of color and marginalized groups: I address these experiences with compassion, sensitivity and honesty in session.

Counseling is an effective way to help us navigate and cope with the expected and unexpected; increase our self-awareness and understanding; heal and get unstuck; and let go and move forward. As an individual, who like everyone else, experiences life's ups and downs and who engages in personal growth and self-care, I know through my personal and professional experiences that people, like you, can make changes; heal and recover; and improve and embrace your life.

Therapy can feel broad and overwhelming. To simplify our approach, we'll seek acceptance and control of adversities that seem to dictate your life. Whatever stressors weigh on you, we'll troubleshoot what hasn't been working and process new tools to put in place. It is my responsibility to adapt to your preferences and ways of learning. I'll provide a space for you that can range from open discussion and exploration, to structured activities and weekly goals. Additionally, these steps are flexible and can be done in a matter of time that fits what you hope to achieve. All possible with individual, couples, and/or family therapy.

Life doesn’t always go the way we planned. Sometimes we get stuck and find ourselves feeling hopeless. You are not alone. Many people I work with have had negative experiences in their lives that continue to affect them in different ways; such as, having meaningful relationships with others. Some people say that fear and worry run their lives. Whatever it may be, I will help you gain insight into your problems and learn new ways to resolve conflicts, develop more confidence, and begin to live the life you want.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
