Emily Dickinson’s poem “Not in Vain”, hung on my wall growing up and I often think its essence seeped into my being. She wrote, “If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain: If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain”. As therapists, we choose to work within the world of emotions and behaviors, learning healthy techniques to bring balance to our mind, body, and spirit. Counseling is a judgement free setting, with an objective listener; where everyone is welcome and can be supported.
Therapy can allow individuals to dismantle unhelpful tendencies in their life and instead choose healthy coping skills and practices each day. My sessions focus on evidence-based practices in mindfulness, stress reduction, trauma, and grief. I also utilize my love of nature and all the Earth’s beings to ground me into my practice.
We live in a time when small traumas are finally being acknowledged and I truly enjoy holding the space for others to explore how our past can affect our present and also validating what society may have diminished for them. Life is not all sunshine especially here in WNY, however without rain there are no rainbows, and together we can create rainbows.
