Having personally faced trauma, ADHD, depression, and anxiety, I have insight into the struggles many individuals encounter.
Welcome to a journey of healing and self-discovery. As a Master’s Level Counseling Intern, I am dedicated to supporting you on this path. My diverse background and personal experiences have shaped my approach to counseling, making it as unique as the individuals I work with. As a father and husband, I’ve experienced firsthand the complexities of family dynamics and the importance of nurturing healthy relationships. From coaching young athletes, I’ve learned patience, empathy, and teamwork, which I bring into my counseling practice. My faith is a significant part of who I am, but I deeply respect and honor your beliefs.

Hi! I’m glad you’ve decided to make some changes in your life! Things are bad lately, but we can make them more manageable. I strongly believe that therapy should focus on the individual. I want to work with you to figure out what works for you specifically. Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error, sometimes it’s just about listening to what you know you need even when it goes against what you were taught. I work with adults and adolescents.

I am a counselor who truly feels honored to be working alongside adult clients to help facilitate the change they need in their life. In addition to being a therapist, I have worked in higher education since 2006 as a college professor and even an adviser, so I have the passion and the knowledge base required for working with college aged clients. In addition, I have years of experience working with adults who have experienced trauma, or struggle with anxiety, depression, personal, or marital issues.

Do you feel stuck in a rut? Like you are running into a similar problem over and over or fighting the same fights with your partner? If you feel this way, it is because you probably are. Our view of ourselves, the world, and our closest relationships are influenced by our family of origin and are the catalyst for these patterns in our lives, including issues with self-esteem, unhappiness, anxiety, and relationship dissatisfaction. As a systemic therapist, I look below the surface and want to help to get to the root of what is going on.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
