The symptoms that have us seek out professional help are often rooted in trauma—experiences in our lives that told us we were unlovable, not “good enough”, or “bad”; that change how we feel about ourselves and how we show up in the world. The challenges that so many of us face today, be it anxiety or chronic stress, depression, substance abuse, or relationship issues, can frequently be traced back to these experiences. As a psychotherapist specializing in mindfulness-based counseling, gestalt therapy and Inner Child Work, I will help you to uncover the heart of your issues, reclaim what was lost, and revive your joy for life.

Are you searching for understanding? Are you wanting to better hold the complexities of your life? Often, truth and wisdom can seem out of reach. This can be due to a number of things that act as obstacles and obscurations to our full understanding of ourselves, others, and human relationships. This experience of being confused, perplexed, or lost is a natural and normal part of being human. This does not mean, however, that you are destined to remain in a state of suffering and confusion. Your brilliance, intelligence, wisdom, and way to wellbeing remain within you. I can help you reconnect to this innate wisdom.

Sometimes in life, our ability to cope is no longer sufficient to get us through challenges or even day-to-day. This can leave us feeling anxious, depressed, and at times, out of control. We might notice ourselves experiencing struggles with self-care, sleep, relationships, self-esteem, health, and sometimes, turning to alcohol or drugs to feel better. Therapy can help us to regain control in our lives, address past wounds, develop healthier coping skills, build resilience and heal our bodies and minds.

Ideal clients are those impacted by their symptoms with an awareness of needing to evolve to overcome their daily struggle. As we start our journey at the bottom of the mountain we must understand there are several paths to the top. All of these paths have the potential to lead you to the top to find the view you've been looking for. You're going to choose your path, as with many things in life. I will walk alongside you as we ascend the mountain, meeting daily goals on the way. As we move forward, we'll process the roots, rocks, caves, canyons we traverse. Why do you keep tripping on them? Why are they holding you back?

Solution-Oriented Therapy with Empathy and Kindness....The problems and dilemmas that you bring to therapy: Those are the sparks that will propel you forward towards your healing. We discuss and explore your issues, and then we integrate what you learn into your daily life. We move as slowly or as quickly as you are comfortable with, in an atmosphere that is safe and contained, creating a path to hope, insight and personal strength. After 30 years helping others heal from and handle difficult situations as well as reach their dreams, it is clear to me that taking action steps - even tiny steps - is key to moving forward.

Do you find yourself disconnected from your presence and the enjoyment of your life here and now? Art is inherently therapeutic. In the context of a therapeutic relationship and traditional talk therapy, it becomes a powerful tool to help find and untangle the knots that bind our soulful aliveness. I work with adults of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression and PTSD.

When traditional talk therapy isn't working, it's time to tune into the wisdom of your body. If you are having anxiety, what is your nervous system trying to tell you? If you are feeling depressed, what are the deeper messages that your soul is trying to express? What large or small traumas are still living in you in a way that robs you of your joy and challenges your relationships? Did you know that your body is a perfectly tuned instrument that has all of the answers you could ever need, yet we distract ourselves, numb ourselves, and ignore the subtle whispers that are trying to guide us out of pain and into the beauty way.

Are you longing for more meaning and clarity? Does your life seem to look the way you thought a happy satisfying life should- and yet, you find yourself feeling unfulfilled and like something is missing? Do you feel hopeless to change anything? You are more capable than you realize. There is more depth, more meaning and purpose available! What if it's less about changing yourself and more about deepening your relationship with yourself to access your unique resiliency and strengths? What if it's not about making due, but more about recognizing and owning your needs as an integral part of showing up authentically and fully?

My practice is about helping you connect to your most authentic self to create a more vibrant life. If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or just the ups and downs of life, and you've found that thinking or talking about it has not brought you sustained relief, then body-based psychotherapy might be perfect for you. In a world where we are increasingly told to "push through" and "tough it out" we can lose our connection to what we are feeling. When we connect to our feelings we can better recognize what we truly need, and take the steps to cultivate a life full of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
