Many of us don’t realize how negative events from our childhood affect the quality of our lives. You wake up most days feeling worthless, angry, fearful, anxious, insecure, and sad. These feelings negatively affect your behavior … you are unmotivated, impulsive, reactive, and take too many risks. These behaviors are negatively affecting every aspect of your life. Bills are piling up, you go from one job to the next, one relationship to the next, and may even be abusing drugs and alcohol. I treat symptoms of childhood developmental trauma/complex PTSD, (i.,e., anxiety, depression, and dissociative disorders).

Are you walking on eggshells? Do you even know how to say what you feel? Are you looking for connection and only find disconnection? Does it seem like you are haunted by the past? Sometimes depression and anxiety tell you how you should feel. Your history likes to persuade you to believe what is best. It can cloud your view of goals and motivation. It wants you to believe everything that it is saying. Let's learn to stand up and speak your truth. What do you really want from your life, your relationship, your direction?

Are you a teenager who is anxious or depressed about how you fit into this world? Are you struggling in the face of a life altering event such as the death of a loved one or adapting to life post-divorce or retirement? Maybe you are you a couple who feels as though the connection that you once felt has dimmed or you have spent so much time focused on raising children that you no longer know how to relate to one another now that the nest is empty? Perhaps you are a family that is dealing with a member's struggles with addiction or find yourselves constantly arguing?

As we all have heard, "Life is a journey." Therefore, as with any "road trip," once in a while we may need to stop, check our path, and refuel before continuing onward. As a practicing clinical psychologist, I am committed to working with my clients to help them explore a variety of life paths and detours in order for them to reach their destinations and achieve subjectively important, and oftentimes difficult to achieve goals.

Lately, it feels like you’re barely holding it together, weighed down by difficult thoughts, feelings, or habits. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck in unwanted patterns, or disconnected from yourself and others. Maybe you’re navigating an eating disorder, trauma, grief, mood disorder, or relationship challenges and it’s exhausting trying to manage it all on your own.

We live in uncertain times. Many of us weren’t prepared for the amount of change that is happening rapidly on the planet at this time. You may be experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, or despair. You are not alone! You may also find yourself more sensitive and open to your environment in ways that are new to you. Not unlike during the pandemic, many of our personal, ancestral and collective traumas are being unearthed-so that they can be looked at and healed. Therapy that goes beyond traditional "talk therapy" and which addresses these issues creatively and in depth can support you in orienting to and navigating these times.

I am here to hold space for you to share whatever it is that is weighing heavily on you, and offer the support you need to inevitably release it. I believe that what most people want is to be seen for the pure soul that they came to this Earth as, and what they need help with is reprogramming some of the unconscious beliefs that society has instilled in them. Some of the ways in which I help my clients is by utilizing narrative, cognitive, and existential therapy to bring compassion to what lives in the unseen.

I believe that our journeys, through life's experiences and struggles, make us who we are. My own life's journey has led me to my career as a psychotherapist, which allows me the opportunity, honor, and privilege, to work together with my clients to realize their own strengths, limitations, and to identify and achieve their goals. I believe this can take place, within a strong therapeutic relationship, built on non-judgment, trust, safety, and compassion.

You've already taken a powerful step by considering therapy, now imagine what's possible when you give yourself the space to grow. If you've been living with anxiety, depression, trauma, or the weight of past experiences, you may feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. You might be seeking relief, clarity, or simply a safe place to feel understood.

Rarely is the step towards seeking help from a therapist easy, or without contemplation. Here is a description of what I've found works best. During our first meeting, I engage you in a process to help you find the best fit possible for your particular needs. Together we can work on defining the right type and style of treatment best for you. We can define specific needs for either long or short term problems that are specific to you individually. This short process will give needed direction to your personal journey.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
