Knowing that trauma can change your life in the hardest of ways, I also believe in your ability to heal from it. I believe in the importance of addressing underlying trauma that may be contributing to current difficulties. I am trained in EMDR and use it frequently in the treatment of distressing symptoms for both teens and adults.

Growing up, your emotions weren't validated, your body didn't feel like home, and your voice struggled to develop to its full potential. Maybe your childhood was a lot like mine, full of confusing moments and unwritten rules that you struggle to make sense of today. As your therapist, my goal is to provide a safe and gentle environment for you and your loved ones to process pain, past trauma, and new transitions as you journey through life. I teach my clients how to find the peace within through mindfulness practices, learning new coping strategies, setting intentional boundaries, and gently exploring how to love themselves fully.

My goal as a Counselor is to help you let go of the resistance that keeps you stuck, whether it's in depression, anxiety, limiting beliefs/behaviors, or a bad relationship; stuck in ways that are destructive to you and/or your family. I believe in taking time to focus on communication skills and the many dynamics of "relationship", relationship to self, partner, family, and coworkers. This includes learning to take care of yourself as well as setting healthy boundaries with others.

You feel stuck and lost in a loop of negative thoughts and self-doubt. You’re moving through life in a fog, but some part of you knows it can be different. You remember feeling empowered, inspired, and excited about life, but you can’t figure out how to get there again. I can help you find yourself again and remember who you are under all those layers of self-doubt, grief, loss, and the needs of others. I love it when my clients re-discover their own light and feel empowered to create the life they deserve.

Traditional talk therapy doesn't always give us the results we want, especially when working with trauma. I work best with clients who prefer a direct approach and have been trying to heal from trauma for a prolonged period of time without a lot of results. I found that spirituality is an important part of the trauma healing process. To me, spirituality looks like connecting with nature and the earth and expands beyond the traditional perspectives. Trauma often comes with addictions and I do not take the abstinence-only perspective on addiction and tend to emphasize harm reduction as an alternative.

My interaction with clients is collaborative and empowering. I believe that we humans are intended to lead fulfilling lives, and that inside each of us is a "wise counselor", access to which is often blocked by obscured wounds. I believe that symptoms of those wounds show up in our lives as addictions, eating disorders, co-dependency, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and/or a sense of "restricted" living. I believe that my own "journey" is useful in helping people find clarity around their wounds, and discover new and increasing levels of personal choice and freedom of expression.

I work with people to assist them in understanding themselves and why they do what they do. Struggles with depression and anxiety may lead people to solutions that may complicate their lives rather than truly solve the problems they are faced with. In therapy, I help people understand the core reasons for their struggles and explore new ways of coping in a non-judgmental, accepting, and confidential atmosphere.

Healing looks different for everyone. The common factor in any form of recovery is self-exploration. To be curious about yourself is a big step in walking the road to wellness. I am familiar and comfortable working with those who are in crisis, have a mood disorder, or struggle with depression, anxiety, and grief. I can serve clients between the ages of 13 and 75. I am also EMDR trained. Hablo inglés y español. If you are nervous, that's okay. A quick call with me can help you determine if I can be of service in your mental health care.

I am a mixed race (black and white) clinician and feel this gives me a unique perspective to mental health. Life can be mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting. Trauma (racial, religious, or anywhere in between), work stress, marital strife, chronic illness and the like can at times feel magnified and the weight feels heavy, but I see you. Life is full of ups and downs and mental health can keep us feeling great or wanting to crawl into a dark hole. Sometimes we need to vent and have someone quietly listen, feel seen and validated, get practical advice or be taught coping skills to manage our emotions.

Everyone, wherever they are on their journey, wants “better” – better relationships, better feelings about self, satisfaction in life – and we try so many things but often come to places where we feel stuck or see ourselves repeating similar patterns. You may be adept at moving on after walking through difficult circumstances, yet this time your “bounce back” doesn’t seem as strong. Making change in one's self can appear difficult, especially if we cannot see for ourselves what needs to be changed. Change can be exhilarating, liberating and an adventure, not an arduous task of “what’s wrong with me?”

This isn’t who you really are. Life looks great on the outside, but on the inside, you are scared, overwhelmed, confused, and anxious. It’s showing at work, school, and in your personal relationships. You always seem to fall short and it’s hard to stay motivated. The fear of making the wrong choice has paralyzed you to the point of inaction. It’s time to break out of the rut. Say goodbye to feeling anxious, insecure, overwhelmed, depressed, and imperfect.

If you're reading this, you are more than likely experiencing some pain and suffering. You may feel lost and hopeless. This pain can become unbearable, especially when we walk through it alone. When we suffer, we often desire the presence of someone not affected by that pain to come alongside us and hear our cries. To sit with us in the emotions and understand us on a deeper level. With my clients, I work hard to be this presence. To form a safe space to feel your emotions, to be heard, and be accepted. Through our therapeutic relationship, we can begin to understand your process and how to best ride the wave of your emotion.
