Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have worked in the mental health field since 2015 in both community mental health and private practice settings. I have experience working with individuals (children, adolescents and adults), couples and families processing a myriad of concerns. Being black, Puerto Rican and a part of the LGBTQ community, I recognize the importance culture and background plays in life and in a therapeutic setting. I use client-centered, trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches to help clients move towards greater wellbeing and understanding of oneself and the world around them.

I am a compassionate and relational therapist who believes that genuine connection is at the heart of meaningful change. Clients often describe me as warm, approachable, and relatable, which allows me to create a safe space where they feel truly heard and understood. I view therapy as a collaborative process of mutual learning and growth, where the therapeutic relationship itself is a foundation for healing.

With over 20 yrs of experience, I work with adults 18+ to create more meaningful lives by supporting personal growth and facilitating life’s challenges. You don’t have to go through this alone. We will work together to uncover patterns in thoughts/feelings and behaviors that may be holding you back or keeping you stuck. If you’re seeking to explore your identity/self, sense of purpose, or what brings meaning to your life, taking time to reflect & gain perspective can help you move forward. Thoughts and emotions need a place to be released and met without judgment. Licensed in Illinois and Colorado

I am drawn to working with couples, families, and individuals from a holistic view. From experience with many different treatment modalities, I use a combination of theories depending on the needs and goals of the client. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) are at the forefront of my practices, as I believe in the importance of the need for secure attachment, safety, belonging and connection. In addition to working with adults, I am also passionate about working with children and adolescents in play therapy.

Life. Is. Hard. Therapy can’t change that. It is not a magical solution to make life easy. But if you’re open to it, therapy can change you. Therapy can help you explore your self, situations, stressors, and relationships. Therapy can help you reflect to gain important new levels of perspective and understanding of yourself and others. Therapy can help you identify and set boundaries in your life. Therapy can help you feel that you have done and said everything you need to in a relationship. Therapy can help you grieve, mourn, heal, and accept. Therapy can help you be the best version of yourself you can be.

Therapy is a place to slow down, be honest, and finally feel understood. I work with children, young adults, athletes, and adults navigating stress, identity, relationships, performance pressure, and life transitions. I especially support Latino/Latine and LGBTQ+ clients and offer therapy in English and Spanish. My approach is direct, collaborative, and compassionate—I meet clients where they are while gently challenging patterns that may no longer serve them. Together, we focus on building insight, practical coping skills, and meaningful, lasting change.

As a BIPOC psychologist with a multicultural background, I bring a thoughtful observational lens to my work with diverse populations. I am especially drawn to working with middle school, high school, college-aged individuals, and adults navigating transitions and trying to better understand their brain style and executive functioning. As someone who has also struggled with schooling, I recognize how home environment, learning styles, cognitive abilities, and emotional regulation shape executive functioning. These factors influence how we learn, form relationships, and engage with the world.

Are you having challenges using healthy coping skills to manage feelings of anxiety and stress? Do you often turn to drugs or alcohol to feel better? You’re someone who desires to be safe and connected with yourself and others, but still find yourself feeling out of control with your emotions, and feeling shame that you can’t just “get it together.” But it's time and you’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to feel grounded and safe, and therefore have the strong relationships, job, and connections you truly desire. Most of all, you’re ready to be free of the impact of substance use and I want to help you get there.

I enjoy working with children, teens, college students, and young adults, especially those navigating the uncertainty and pressure that often comes with growing up and major life transitions. Clients may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem, grief, or feeling overwhelmed by school, relationships, or identity. Some come in not knowing exactly what’s wrong, just that things feel heavy. I offer a collaborative, supportive space to slow things down, make sense of what’s happening, and build tools to feel more grounded and confident.

Life can feel overwhelming when anxiety, depression, or mood changes start to take over. You may find yourself stuck in patterns of worry, feeling unmotivated, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Helping people navigate anxiety, depression, and other mood-related challenges is at the heart of my work as a therapist. I believe that emotions—even the painful ones—are signals that deserve understanding rather than judgment. My goal is to create a space where clients feel safe, supported, and genuinely heard while we explore what’s getting in the way of the life they want to live.

Life is challenging, pushing us to our limits and out of our comfort zones, but you don’t have to face the change alone. As Brené Brown said, “when we numb the painful emotions, we also numb the positive ones.” Rather than trying to struggle with and overpower those feelings, we can work together to embrace and accept them in order to move forward. I aim to collaborate, empower, and teach you to work with any negative or painful emotional triggers. From our work together, my goal is for you to find lightness and joy in your life again.

In 30+ years of practice, I have seen individuals, couples, and families dealing with a wide variety of concerns. I try to provide my clients with an accepting, supportive environment in which they can openly express themselves. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor. In line with this, I see myself as actively engaging clients in a process of better understanding themselves and figuring out ways of making the changes they seek. I have extensive experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy, couple counseling, and family systems work, and see clients in short term solution-focused treatment as well as longer term intensive therapy.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
