It takes vulnerability and courage to engage in the therapeutic process, to discover parts of ourselves that have remained hidden. Oftentimes when we are in a place of suffering, our guard is up and we can carry shame and fear. Wherever you are in your self-discovery, I encourage this process to be one filled with grace, acceptance, and patience. Collaboratively we will work as a team to dismantle the ways of coping that may no longer support you.

It can feel difficult to find real understanding from others, and the endeavor to feel understood can be exhausting. As your therapist, I will make and hold space for all your complexity. I believe that with a solid foundation between therapist and client, there can be promising progress in treatment. Through unconditional positive regard and empathy, I hope to empower my clients so that they can rely on their internal resources during difficult times. I treat through a psychodynamic lens while integrating cognitive behavioral practices. I also use here-and-now commentary to work through client issues.

As a woman stepping into adulthood, you find yourself afraid to face the unknown. Instead of feeling excitement about what's to come, you're paralyzed by insecurities--that deep down you might be a fraud, that you don’t measure up, that you’re never going to be “good enough”. These thoughts have seeped into your career, your education, your relationships. You feel isolated and hopeless, uncertain of what to do next. That voice of doubt inside of you won't shut up and it's holding you back from finding your purpose. I’m here to tell you that just because that voice is LOUD, does not mean that what it’s telling you is TRUE.

I began my career as a practicing attorney representing women in abusive relationships in order of protection and divorce proceedings. As a therapist, I use my legal and therapeutic background to provide individual counseling prior to, during, and after divorce. Divorce is a traumatic life event that can have a ripple effect on nearly every aspect of one's life. I offer clients both concrete help to better understand the legal system and what they can expect from the process, while also working to gain deeper insight into what happened in the relationship and starting to heal from the experience.

An exciting moment happens in therapy when a personal challenge is examined from a renewed perspective. In that moment, what once seemed difficult can take on new meaning. It has the potential to become a defining moment that inspires continued change, growth, and healing. Furthering this process is the potential realization that these ideas were already innate and just awaiting connection.

People find themselves looking for the help of a professional when their previous ways of coping are no longer effective and they feel lost or stuck. Therapy is an opportunity for change. By entering into therapy, you offer yourself an opportunity to explore your needs and feelings with an insightful, caring professional who can support you in finding new ways of meeting the challenges in your life. I am interested in helping my patients understand themselves, their behaviors, and their experiences by making meaning of how past experiences have impacted them and potentially influence current behaviors, relationships, and life circumstances.

How can I find a therapist in 60657?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
