Dr. Schaefer is double board certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Schaefer graduated from medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed both her general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent fellowship training at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, where she served as chief resident. She works to collaboratively target each patient’s treatment to their particular goals through a combination of medication management and individual or family therapy.

Most of the patients I see carry diagnoses of adjustment disorder, ADHD, or mood and anxiety disorders. I feel every patient should have a say in their treatment plan. As a provider, I will work with you to develop a treatment plan that helps you and makes your family feel comfortable with it. I use both psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, with evidence-based practice. I also believe in the use of non-pharmacological means can also help a patient when necessary.

I specialize in comprehensive treatment of mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse and PTSD that have been poorly responsive to other trials of treatment. Philip is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner with almost a decade of experience in working with individuals struggling with addiction. Addiction effects all parts of a person and as such requires treatment that addresses each of these parts. Medication assisted sobriety encompasses certain medications that help to work on the parts of the brain that either cause an individual to be more prone to addiction or to help block the reward centers of the brain in order to minimize cravings and desire to use.

Dr. Coton is board-eligible in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Coton attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his residency in general psychiatry at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. Dr. Coton completed his Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the St. Mary’s University in San Antonio with focus on addiction populations in drug court programs, neurorehabilitation, and counseling. He has contributed to research in addiction in various patient populations.
