I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist in the last stages of UKCP-accredited training.
There may be many reasons why you are seeking therapy at this point in your life. Perhaps you feel inclined to follow other people's wishes instead of your own. Perhaps you are unable to decide for yourself. Psychotherapy may bring you closer to what is true of you as an individual. From my perspective, the patient and the therapist actively participate in the transformation process. As a therapist, I provide you with the support and the space to figure things out in your own individual way.

My therapeutic work draws on Systemic and Psychoanalytic ideas, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
You may have a specific concern that you'd like to work on. Or it might be that you would like to uncover longstanding patterns that have troubled you. Maybe your goal is to understand yourself better in general. As a Clinical Psychologist, my role is to support clients to make sense of their situation/themselves using compassionate, research-led approaches that are effective in practice. Through therapy, it might be that you uncover further goals and want support in deciding your next steps, I can help with that too.

I offer a psychoanalytic approach which endeavours to recognise how recurring patterns in relationships have been effected by the past and earlier experiences. A current traumatic experience or distressing situation may be a reminder of an early hurt. From childhood, foundations for relationships are set in place and provide a template for what lies ahead. Dependent on these secure/insecure early foundations, we form strategies to cope with unpredictable or unpalatable feelings. It may be that circumstances arise which cause us to reach for unhelpful strategies only serving to hurt us more.

My therapeutic approach is mainly relational with a psychoanalytic theoretical base.
I am a qualified Psychologist and psychotherapist from Brazil, and I am very passionate about therapeutic interventions that vary from deep psychological interventions based on the client's history and memories, to an emphasis on the relationship between therapist and client, including their cultural context and systems. I am also very interested in using symbolic representations and meanings in the therapeutic setting to assist clients on their reflections and self-awareness. I have worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, voluntary LGBTQ organisations, as well as the private and educational sectors.

I am a group analyst and a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience in the field.
Quite often we have no adequate words to name how we feel, and we may get lost in familiar but unhelpful or hurtful patterns of relationships and behaviours. I offer people who are hurt, worried or isolated with their thoughts to jointly explore ways how to change these patterns.

My core training is psychodynamic, although I draw on a humanistic foundation to combine the rigour of psychoanalytic understanding with a warm, empathic approach which meets you where you currently are.
You may be feeling stuck or overwhelmed by specific experiences or circumstances, or you may be unsure why you don’t feel happy. Perhaps this feeling that something is wrong is recent or you might have been struggling with it for a long time. Our environment, and the ways that we are seen by other people, can leave us feeling pressurised, dismissed or misunderstood. Together, we can work to explore and understand your experience, allowing you to process some of the painful feelings which have left you feeling distressed. Working sensitively at your pace, we can explore how you feel without judgment.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a talking therapy based on saying whatever is going through your mind. It can help you with issues related to trauma, relationships, grief, depression, anxiety, or major life changes. It helps you become aware of hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may contribute to your problems. Many people come into therapy because they feel they are trapped by their past & want to talk it through with someone & work through things on a deeper level. I aim to provide a safe, personal space where you can talk about yourself & what troubles you, to try to understand the connections & patterns.

I am a registered Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Practitioner Psychologist, and am on the British Psychological Society Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS). I have been in Private Practice in Central London for nine years. Before spending ten years in full-time study and training in London universities and NHS Trusts to qualify as a psychologist, I spent a decade travelling, mainly around Asia, studying Eastern psychology and philosophy. Thus, I have a rich lens of psychological perspectives through which I understand and work with the mind. Psychoanalytic thinking underpins my approach to therapy.

I specialise in psychoanalytic therapy, which involves weekly sessions aimed at addressing the root cause of issues.
I work with people from all walks of life who are struggling with persistent issues that keep coming up despite prior efforts to overcome them. These issues can include low self-esteem, depression and anxiety, intrusive negative thoughts, intimacy problems, and past traumatic experiences that leave you feeling stuck and, at times, helpless to move forward. In psychotherapy, we will work together to understand the underlying causes of your most pressing difficulties and create space for positive change where there wasn't any before.

I work from a psychoanalytic perspective with an attachment-based focus, providing my clients a space to explore how their past might be influencing their life at present, as well as the ways they relate and connect to others. In the therapeutic process I help clients to gain insight into their state of mind by bringing the unconscious to a conscious level. Alongside these processes, I pay dedicated attention to the quality of the relationship between myself and the clients. This combination is a powerful vehicle for facilitating a meaningful change in the clients’ lives.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
