Do you struggle with any of the following: waking up in the morning full of dread, a racing mind that won’t stop, an anxious gut, obsessive worrying, looping thoughts, low mood, low appetite, low motivation? Anxiety and depression can rob us of our ability to enjoy the moment, and dampen our love for life. I am a registered therapist with over 10 years of experience. Work with me to achieve calm thoughts, a calm mind, and be to wake up in the morning with a love for life.

At AnxietyLab RN Psychotherapy I work with kids, adolescents (twelve years old and up for virtual therapy) and adults who struggle with anxiety, OCD and other mental health issues. Feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed with life is hard. It takes the fun out of life and keeps us from doing what we really want and sometimes need to do. Building a relationship and trust with my clients is my number one goal, the foundation of therapy. I always start with a thorough assessment. Once I totally “get” you we can set goals, make a plan, and get to work!

Are you noticing more about the world around you? Are you beginning to see patterns and repeating cycles in your life? It is hard to begin moving forward in life without becoming aware of how we respond and react. By becoming more aware, we are able to choose how we show up. We can choose whether we yell, whether we escape, whether we become more dysregulated. By building awareness, we have the power to become who we are meant to be, and to live our life's purpose. As a nurse psychotherapist, I help guide clients towards their true identity, offering them a warm, attuned presence so they can explore themselves fully.

Congratulations on taking a step toward healing. Whether you are just beginning the journey or have been on the journey for quite some time, I am here to help. I believe that there are things in life that derail us from living to our full potential. These events, whether small "t" traumas or big "T" Traumas, cause us to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. It changes the way we feel about ourselves and how we interact with others. With the right support and therapy, I believe we all have the strength, courage, and internal resources to overcome negative life experiences.

There are times in a person's life when they reach an interior impasse. For any number of reasons, the realization gradually dawns on them that their inner freedom has been compromised and there is no clear understanding why. Often, this takes place in the context of relationship, whether with their spouse, family, friends or colleagues. While a family physician, social worker or another health professional can and do help, sometimes what is also needed is the help of a psychotherapist trained and certified in the art and science of talk therapy, the bedrock of all psychotherapy models. It can be the key to change and inner freedom.

Accepting New Clients. We as human beings experience stressors, challenges, difficulties and traumas as we navigate life, regardless of our age. We might struggle with feelings of sadness, anger or anxiety. Many of us need a place to feel understood, safe and connected. We yearn for validation, empathy, acceptance and compassion. We want to feel more connected to ourselves and/or our relationships. We want to feel like we belong, we are valued and we matter. Our lives can be so busy and full of chaos. We can experience more clarity. We want to increase our feelings of joy, calm and our sense of worth. You are enough.

I see children and families for a variety of reasons. Generally speaking, people come to me because they are ready to improve their quality of life, relationship with other family members, or heal from some form of experience. I may see individuals and families to help with emotional regulation, behavioural challenges, increase coping skills, or to improve communication and reduce conflict. My service approach is geared towards the individual goals and needs of the family. Often families come to me because they want some form of individual or family function to change. I can help through either talk therapy and/or play therapy.

Our wellness is based on a combination of factors. Sometimes we need extra support during uncertain times, whether that is individually or within our relationships. I am most interested in what is meaningful for you and what you want to bring to the therapeutic process to support personal growth so that you can work towards living the life you want to live.

While the people in your life are important to you, you may feel unsettled in your relationships as you try to cope with having a lack of peace and contentment. You may be struggling with the sense of not being good enough. You may also feel lonely and isolated as your relationships simply aren't thriving as you would hope. Self-doubt and a lack of confidence sometimes add to the weight of worry and sadness you may be experiencing. Finding it difficult to express your needs and wants, you feel at a loss, which can often lead to hurt, anger, or frustration. Your heart yearns for connection, but it seems far from reach.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
