Hello, I am a Registered Psychologist licensed work in Clinical, Counselling and Rehabilitation Psychology. Throughout my career I have worked with families, couples and individuals, in preventative, supportive, crisis and therapeutic settings. These roles have allowed me to develop an approach to working with people that draws upon the strengths of cognitive, behavioural, relational, attachment and trauma informed therapies. Working together may involve understanding how your past is impacting your relationships/parenting today, or it may focus on developing ways of dealing with and working through issues in your daily life.

Over my 36 years of counselling I most enjoy working with clients who are committed and motivated to ‘do the work’. My expertise is focused in the areas of anxiety, depression, emotional abuse, trauma, PTSD, Complex-PTSD. Most of my clients have priorities that compete with the time they have for self care so my style is to focus on facilitating the achievement of your counselling goals in a patient but progressive pace. For me, counselling is not a ‘one off’ thing, and I enjoy building lasting relationships with my clients who often come back for support as needed intermittently over the years.

My passion is working with children, adolescents, and young adults, specifically around anxiety and when it becomes overwhelming, affecting your quality of life. Anxiety can look different for everyone and appear everyday or in certain situations, which makes it difficult to be confident, content, or successful. Anxiety can be generalized or specific, such as fear and phobias, health, academic or sports-related, or social settings. With my help using cognitive behavioral therapy, one can find great relief from anxiety.

I work with clients who struggle with "regulation difficulties". When your "motor" is running automatically, too fast or too slow, it is very difficult to respond efficiently and thoughtfully. My clients struggle to be present, are unable to respond appropriately in times of stress, and cannot maintain a direction in life. Some of my clients have difficulties such as Complex Trauma, attachment issues, depression, anxiety and ADHD. This can happen to men, women, children and teens. Learning to be regulated can improve one's ability to focus and to learn, to be able to manage one's life and have deep meaningful relationships.

Are you struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma or fears? Are you finding it difficult to cope with your day-to-day challenges; struggling with large life changes or decisions; or feeling stress related to serious medical issues or chronic pain? Do you feel that your current life difficulties are due to early life trauma? You may know that you are a Spiritual being having a human experience, but that human experience can be very difficult. I believe that we are each a whole mind, body and spirit, and that as we become consciously aware of our thoughts and feelings and their origins, these become more peaceful.

I feel it is essential to build a strong therapeutic relationship with each client right from the start to ensure a safe and comfortable space to share, heal and grow. I believe in the importance of working collaboratively with each person; establishing goals and working together to decide on a plan to achieve these goals. I like to facilitate the development of self-awareness and the ability to recognize the connections within different areas of our lives.

Are your loved ones telling you you’re cold or have no emotions? Are you angry or resentful, but not sure what to do with those emotions? You might be feeling alone and like you have to put on an act to seem like you have your “stuff” together for the people around you. Maybe you’re struggling with infidelity or sexual urges outside of your primary relationship and don't quite know what to do with these or how they fit into your life. We’ve been taught our value is based on our competence and ability to provide, which has lead to parts of our human experience as men not being welcomed – sadness loneliness, sexuality to name a few.

As a therapist with over 2o years of experience, I hear clients say they wished they had reached out sooner for support. Often, shame or guilt had gotten in their way, somehow thinking they should be able to make changes alone. Quite honestly, we are not meant to do things alone. I offer treatment for struggles such as family stressors, parenting biological, foster and adoptive children, depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and childhood maltreatment experiences. I work extensively with parents with their own adverse childhood experiences to change patterns from their upbringing and feel more successful in their parenting.

Feeling stuck, overwhelmed and exhausted from trying to have it all figured out? You find yourself stuck over-comparing, over-thinking and over-doing. People-pleasing feels like second nature. Imposter syndrome is plaguing your system and you find yourself riddled with self-doubt. “Am I doing enough?” “Will I ever succeed?” “I feel like a fraud!” The next step always feels daunting because your mind is on overdrive with to-do lists and self-limiting beliefs. Maybe you find yourself over-analyzing situations, outcomes, or things that haven’t even happened. It’s difficult to set boundaries, and you are feeling disconnected.

Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
