It can be difficult to simply be in the world right now, on top of whatever unique stressors you may be facing. Though it may be easy to convince yourself that your problems are insignificant or bearable, everyone needs a place to be heard and supported. My role as a therapist is not to analyze, pathologize or label you. Instead, my role is to be curious about the meaning you give to your experiences and to ask questions that may help you to shift your outlook on the challenges you’re facing.

We all carry stories about our experiences. I maintain that the way we view others, the world and ourselves is deeply rooted in these experiences and in our interactions with others. It is in the calm noticing and re-telling in a therapeutic space that we can foster the awareness and insight that are central to change and growth. I hold a safe, warm and accepting space for you to begin these explorations.

Relationships are at the core of all of our lives. They give us a sense of deep connection and belonging. But, they aren't always perfect and can leave you feeling anxious and unsure how to fix it. We will explore how your life experiences and/or traumas have impacted and shaped you so you can identify how to heal and move into a new way of showing up in your life. I also work with couples on their communication, boundaries, intimacy, meeting needs, and trust. In couples therapy, you both can learn to respond safely and predictably to each other, identify the sex you desire, co-parent better, and co-create your ideal relationship.

When loss of meaning knocks on our door, anxiety and depression very often appear. We would like the trials of life not to exist: illness, loss of employment, loss of a loved one, a move, Covid-19, separation etc, which is unfortunately impossible to avoid. However, we can learn to go through them and develop more positive therapeutic tools to manage the emotional pain that the incomprehensible engenders.

We live in the time of greatest wealth and technological connectiveness in human history. And yet, people are more anxious, depressed, prone to procrastination and social isolation than ever before. Can both be true? Yes, because we also live in a time of unprecedented change and uncertainty. We all long for connection, but we just don't know how to get and stay there. Finding a safe and confidential place to talk, to unburden problems and search for solutions might be the best, most certain first step you can take in this uncertain world. Our meaning and mental health hangs in the balance.

The tightness in your chest, knots in your stomach and the stories your mind tells you have been getting out of hand lately. Your efforts to control your anxiety haven’t been working the way you’d like, and you’re left feeling like you just want to run away. Fear of making mistakes, saying the wrong thing, hesitating to take on new challenges, and the discomfort of feeling out of place have become too much. Common sense methods like trying to be rational or think positively only make it worse. Anxiety is holding you back from being the person you wish to be.

My theory of change is founded on the premise that healing and growth can emerge through nurturing interpersonal connections. I stand by the belief that we are relational beings, meaning that our interactions with others influence our mood, sense of self, and well-being. Through sessions, whether I work with you or your relationship, I facilitate dynamic interventions to create new bonding moments that foster cognitive awareness, emotional regulation, and behavioural changes. As a therapist, my goal is to help you shift from a place of reactiveness and hopelessness to a place of communication and connection.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
