The counseling world is shifting. The latest studies are proving that effective counseling goes beyond just talk therapy: it includes attention to both the mind and the body. I utilize experiential modalities, based on cutting-edge research and real-world experience by the world’s leading experiential practitioners. I combine this with classic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Somatic Experiencing (SE). Applying these tandem techniques in the counseling setting helps my clients attain tangible and life-altering changes.

I have over twenty years experience working with adolescents. My primary expertise is working with teens, parents and family dynamics but I love working with anyone who is seeking to empower and better themselves. I have experience working with almost every problem and issue but I have found that what truly makes a difference is when people learn to be the most powerful element of change in their own lives. People get better when they become empowered and learn to help themselves. That's when they start to look beyond their own limits. I love seeing people make this step, those are the ones I love working with the most.

Thanks for checking me out. I applaud your efforts to find help whether it's for you or someone you love. Finding someone to work with can be a challenge and I urge you to be picky. Ask questions. There are a lot of us to choose from. If you're not experiencing a therapeutic alliance, keep looking. Your person(s) is out there, Should we meet, evaluating 'helpfulness' is an open and ongoing conversation. My hope is that we would figure out your goals, ways to know if they are being achieved and the best, and most effective, ways to do that. I'm not one to ask, "and how does that make you feel?" Not often, anyway. Ha!

Addiction and its accompanying issues make life a struggle for both the client and for those who love them. Those in active addiction intuitively know there is a gap between the life they're demonstrating and the possibilities their potential affords - if they could only get out of their own way. My methods promote profound fundamental change: the shedding of self-destructive attributes, the definition of a clear, compelling vision for the future, and the tools clients need to implement strategies that will enable them to become the best possible version of themselves.

To heal it is important to be heard, understood, and seen. We go through different life events and can experience suffering along the way that impairs daily living. My goal is getting to the root of the present challenge to support lasting change so people can experience the well-being they deserve as a human right! I take an integrative, compassionate, and accepting approach meeting people where they are at focusing with experiential, emotion focused, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, psychodynamic, and person centered approaches to help people heal. I collaborate with clients to create meaning and draw out authentic living.

Some of the modalities I use are Gestalt, IFS, EMDR, BodyTalk and EFT tapping.
Taking the initial step to go to therapy isn’t an easy one. You may be feeling hurt, unsafe, scared, exhausted, lonely, or even desperate. The list is endless. You finally gathered the courage to seek for help and really hope to find a welcoming therapist that will make you feel safe and accepted as you are. I make sure to create that kind of welcoming and non-judgmental environment for you, because if you feel truly safe then you can find the strength to look at and even face the difficult and traumatic events in your life.

Somatic-focused EMDR and Gestalt Therapy allow for greater awareness of our full selves, thus integrating the mind and body.
Psychotherapy is a way to learn more about ourselves, find options for change, and develop skills for managing difficult situations and emotions. While the "story" of pain is important, I offer clients the opportunity to better understand the roots of distress, ways in which bodies hold emotional pain, and clear options for enhancing natural resilience. For over a decade, I have helped clients manage anxiety and depression and recover from addiction and trauma. I work with LGBT clients around trauma and discrimination. With training in EMDR, Gestalt Therapy, and CBT, I offer a variety of therapies based on individual need.

I believe you already have what it takes. Together we can uncover the problems of your past & work to gain positive, healthy change. With a trustworthy ear, I offer a pathway we can walk together in creating a sustainable & structured path for lasting recovery. We all have stress...question is: “how do you cope?” Good news: there are many tried and true evidence-based approaches to help you get better and do better…no matter what combination of troubles! After losing my son-in-law to addiction and self harm, I decided to get a masters in mental health, and learn all I could…to treat the whole person - emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It’s called integrated recovery. We are each uniquely complex and layered; so are our challenges. I wish to give you practical tools to navigate life’s challenges and to rise - learning to connect with others and embodying your best self.

With a collection of approaches and perspectives that are uniquely selected for the individual, one of the most fundamental aspects of therapy is a strong relationship between client and therapist. Since life is difficult and full of hardship, the moments we have to work together will be filled with compassion, sensitivity, authenticity, and courage. As we progress together, we will come to a realization: you already have it within you.

I work with adolescents and adults struggling with depression and anxiety. Depression and anxiety can show up as irritability, behavioral concerns, substance use; school, work and relationship difficulties. I use mindfulness to increase awareness and bring issues to the surface where they can be dealt with effectively. Many individuals feel they have thought or talked about a problem for years without making progress. Mindfulness can address these issues by connecting body sensations, negative emotions and healing. All appointments are via remote video.

“I feel lost”… “I feel like I don’t belong”… “I feel like life is too complex”… "I feel disconnected with myself"... “I’m not who I want to be or who I expected to become”… “I feel stuck in a life that I don’t recognize anymore”… There appears to be a rising recognition of the change and complexity of life in the world today. Attributes that once appeared to be strengths are now often overwhelming and underappreciated. At the root of it all is trauma, which breathes into this life disconnect and isolation.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
