We all experience life’s journey in unique ways. In every path we come across obstacles, form relationships, experience loss, misunderstanding, confusion, anger, and dismay. But we also experience happiness, hope, love and connection. We use these experiences to make meaning and find purpose. However, we, our relationships, and this world are constantly changing. It can be hard to communicate our true meaning or trust that when we do, we will be heard.

We all have unique lived experiences and it's time we honor your narrative & your true authentic self.
Sometimes our trauma and lived experiences can make us hide authentic parts of ourselves. Trauma can arise from various experiences in our lives, including the quieter, less obvious ones. It can be anything from shame, bullying, humiliation, and the stressors of our environment. Whatever the case may be, the effects it has on our day-to-day lives can feel crippling. One of my primary goals is to help my clients learn to embrace & welcome all parts of themselves, even the parts that are hurt & traumatized. Authenticity and advocacy are core beliefs I stand for and trauma work is something I am passionate about.

I also utilize Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Therapy today is geared toward finding problems or issues in people. This approach tends to create an environment where we are made to be victims of our own challenges. Therapy with me is geared toward finding the strengths you already possess and maximizing the potential of those strengths. I am not here to fix you. I am here to empower you to be the best version of yourself. Find out how different therapy can be.

I utilize methods from DBT, CBT, narrative therapy, solutions-focused, somatic, and existentialism.
I believe that life can be meaningful and fulfilling. This can come from exploration and healing. The focus in my practice is on LGBTQIA+ individuals and individuals experiencing faith crisis, transition, and questioning. In my professional experience trauma, depression, and various anxieties can make life feel overwhelming and lonely.

Whether it's the first time or the hundredth, telling someone your story is daunting. Let's start wherever you are in the moment. I want to help you dismantle harsh narratives we often take on, sometimes without even realizing it. The stories we tell ourselves shape our behavior, relationships, physical health & entire reality. Along with Narrative Therapy, our work will include multiple evidence-based modalities— all proven to relieve symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and increase self-esteem. I love working with both individuals & couples. I tell my clients all of the time, we heal within the context of healthy relationships.

While using traditional techniques such as DBT, CBT, Narrative, and Solution-Focused.
Life is full of unexpected bumps, making handling the emotional and behavioral responses that follow them challenging. Many who walk in my door already know what they need and want. My role is to be not only a listening ear but also to provide insight and skills to assist with your healing. I believe in tailoring my treatment to fit your individual needs and making building a solid therapeutic relationship a priority.

From a more practical standpoint, I practice from a variety of modalities including Family Systems Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and CBT.
Relationships can be complicated, challenging, fulfilling, and rewarding all at once. My role is to help you navigate these relationships in a way that makes sense for you. I am a non-pathologizing therapist, meaning I believe people are not defined by the problem they are struggling with. For me it is an honor to be invited into someone’s life story and to be trusted to help create their desired change. I understand that people have varied experiences and come in with different goals/expectations. It is my job to meet someone where they are, and to work collaboratively at their pace.

OPEN for May appointments! - I believe in healing that gets to the root - the best healing happens when therapy involves compassionate, deep self-reflection and honest, real conversations in a safe environment. I work with clients and their partners and family members to heal from difficult past experiences and current conflicts toward brighter futures, stronger relationships, and a more secure sense of self.

I utilize many modalities including EMDR, CPT, CBT, Narrative Therapy, DBT, ERP, and ACT.
My focus has been on the way trauma, lived experiences, social systems, and substance use often show up and weave together in us. We all have trauma, regardless of how we take up our space in the world. I love to show people their inner strength and foster self-compassion through harm-reduction and specialized trauma treatment techniques. I strive to confront the often-overwhelming stigma and shame so many of us have surrounding mental health issues, sexuality, gender expression, race, ethnicity, and spirituality. If you feel scared or stuck, I am ready to help navigate your unique process and path.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
