I specialize in treating adults who have experienced trauma, sexual, physical, and life issues which themselves can be traumatic.
There are times in life when people go round and round, and wonder if that is all life has to give...if you feel that the behavior, thoughts, and feelings of yourself or others are not working, then reaching a hand out to an expert who can look for alternatives makes sense.

As a 1st-generation American, I grew up with my cultural feet on two continents, and I know we carry our family's intergenerational trauma, history, and politics into our current relationships.
Life is an ongoing journey of growth and learning. It involves ups and downs, and ruptures do happen. Do we know how to heal and repair those ruptures? Whether processing grief or trauma, or wondering if intimacy and trust can ever happen, or wondering why we stay stuck in unhealthy patterns that just aren't working, I will help you uncover what it is you really want for yourself and then support you in committing to a path forward. I also welcome the challenge of helping partners listen and feel heard as separate individuals, so that they can collaborate on a shared vision that works for all involved. You deserve more joy!

IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL appointments available. Lyra Provider. It’s Monday at 6:05 am. Your alarm goes off, and the worrying begins. You feel tired. Before leaving your bed, you overthink your day at work, your interactions with your partner, the kids, and your feelings of never being enough. It’s difficult to even try to change your thoughts. You find yourself skipping your previously planned workout, heading straight for coffee, and rushing to get ready for work. The negative thoughts continue throughout your day. At 5 pm, you rush home to start the evening routine. And when it’s time for bed, you can't sleep...

I work with adults and couples to understand the despair of anxiety, depersonalization, and isolation - the insight into trauma, abuse, and abandonment we develop is often the reason that clients work with me for longer periods of time.
Although most people are depressed or angry at times, they generally find a way to deal with the situation. There are times, however, when a person loses hope or is overwhelmed. They or others decide they might use some help. Sometimes a woman or a man decides that they would like to adjust their life style and emphasize their sense of self. If you work in Silicon Valley, I can use my experience in industry to help you unblock your potential and design effective strategies for greater satisfaction. If you seek spiritual depth, my years as a guide may help unfold meaning.

I am invested in working with individuals who are healing trauma, overcoming a crisis, moving through the trauma of divorce, battling relationship issues, and grieving the loss of a loved one.
I understand how complicated life can become, leading to such challenges as divorce, struggles raising children, blended families, difficult relationships, trauma, and loss. The ways you have adapted to those challenges may no longer work for you and we can discover new strengths and interactional patterns that can make life easier and simpler. I have helped individuals deal with anxiety and depression, and move through times of loss and trauma. I approach people with authenticity, honesty and openness.

For the integration of trauma, I offer a blend of modalities, such as bilateral stimulation / EMDR, somatic experiencing, and ancestral work.
I work with clients who are (highly) sensitive, empathic, or intuitive. Sensitive people have a finely attuned nervous system that is a huge gift when made conscious. They experience life deeply, yet don't always feel easily understood by others. Growing up, they often experienced not fitting in, and have adapted to a largely non-sensitive world in myriad ways that didn't always serve their best interest. I support sensitive people on their path to finding their voice, experiencing genuine relationships, purposeful work, and reclaiming their space in the world.

I am trained in EMDR for trauma and the Hakomi Method, an experiential, body-centered approach.
My ideal client is someone who wants solutions to current life issues, but also to explore and let go of limiting beliefs and patterns. Many of them deal with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship issues, and blocked creativity. Uncovering and releasing unresolved emotions opens up space for lasting change. My Mind/Body approach integrates relational talk therapy, somatics, and expressive arts. Through these processes of self-discovery and healing, clients may feel more empowered and connected with their innate vitality and creativity.

A crisis can be used in a therapeutic process as an opportunity to overcome limitations, trauma, and deficits and to face the great issues of life.
Developing and maintaining a vital and fulfilling long-term relationship is one of the most difficult challenges we face in our lifetimes. I see impasses and breakdowns such as extensive arguing, lack of desire or estrangement as "natural and necessary failures" that point towards deeper individual issues that need to be addressed and worked through. In couples' sessions I help each partner to find a differentiated stance, interrupt dysfunctional patterns and develop healthier ways of relating and dealing with conflicts. In addition to working with couples and individuals, men's issues have been a focus of my interest for three decades.

Neurofeedback requires a trained health professional doctor as emotions, memories of trauma needing management in the office can be accessed during a session, or later.
My work embraces two levels. 1. Licensed clinical psychologist with a range of classical methods. 2. Board Certified Senior Fellow in Medical Neurofeedback and QEEG (not consumer level for amusement/recreation). Clients develop a more powerful sense of relaxed self-esteem and an effective understanding of how to manage life traumas and stress more effectively. Several publications in mental health and medical neurofeedback. "The Encyclopedia of Mental Health", "Neurofeedback First 50 Years". The combination of clinical therapy and medical neurofeedback can be powerful, healing, and transformative in its ability to change lives.

Regardless of your suffering, there is a way through it and because we each have our own way of processing emotional wounds, I take an individualized approach to help you transform pain into healing. I specialize in addressing trauma and grief. This includes the loss of a loved one, traumatic loss (event-related, developmental), as well as psychological symptoms associated with chronic and terminal illness. Through an integrated approach, my work is about healing the soul and finding light in the darkness despite facing life-threatening conditions afflicting the body, mind, heart, and spirit.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
