Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best, "Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope." Challenges in life are inevitable and at times, there are challenges that seem larger than our ability to manage them. Issues such as depression, anxiety; healing from previous trauma, and abuse are areas that can grip us and prevent us from living our best lives.

Life's wild out here, but you deserve to safely process your trauma, learn how to protect your peace, have the relationships you want, & live a meaningful life.
Welcome to your safe place to process trauma, untangle your messy relationships, shed the bullshit, & live authentically. You're exhausted & drained, and you desperately crave a meaningful life beyond the grind of overwork, over-thinking, autopilot, and anxiety. You're out here doing your best, but let's be honest, you're tired of just trying to survive and get by. You know there's more you want out of life and you're ready to become unstuck and see what's on the other side of burnout, anxiety, and trauma.

How are you? No really, how ARE you? Because I am interested in the real you. The you behind the mask. The you that may be uncomfortable in their current life pattern, struggling with intrusive thoughts, difficulty working through trauma, wrangling with ADHD, or even wanting to tear their hair out as a new parent. Or perhaps you wake up each day between 2-4am, wondering: How the heck did I get here? Or maybe you are grieving dreams that did not turn out as expected, whether a relationship ending, or a life plan gone awry.

I work with Complex PTSD, BPD, Sexual Trauma, Grief/Loss, Substance Use, Anxiety, Depression, and Relationship Issues.
Are you tired of code/persona switching? Maybe there are some underlying behaviors & emotions that don't make sense & you want to learn more? Or maybe you can't seem to connect with someone who actually "gets it", which doesn't mean they're terrible people, because they're endearing when they try, but they just don't seem to fully understand. It's hard trying to navigate life & all it's complexities. As humans, we're multi-faceted, multi-dimensional beings which can be really overwhelming. There are parts that we love, other parts that we dislike, maybe even hate. This can cause to act in self-sabotaging ways, unintentionally.

My specialties are disordered eating, trauma recovery, and relationship issues, as well as anxiety, depression, and grief/loss.
It takes courage to reach out for support. Often people reach out when their usual strategies to manage their life fail, and they feel stuck. Are you feeling like you can't think or talk your way out of your unhappiness? The role of the therapist is as a facilitator or guide to help you identify the patterns that are no longer working for you, and develop strategies to heal and change. I will work with you to develop a plan in therapy that meets your individual needs and goals. You can free up energy for the people and pursuits in life that matter. I want to help you get there.

My specialties include complex trauma, childhood abuse/neglect, healing from narcissistic/abusive relationships, codependency and relationship problems, substance use disorders, masculinity and men's issues, parenting, and working with Asian American/minority issues such as family conflict, intergenerational trauma, cultural identity & racism.
Though I work with most issues, I specialize in helping people recover from complex trauma. People with narcissistic, abusive, or neglectful parents or partners sometimes develop issues with trusting themselves, have difficulty maintaining close relationships, struggle with an inner critic, vacillate often between depression and anxiety, lack a solid sense of identity, or feel a sense of emptiness when their lives seem great on paper. Sometimes that trauma can even become part of one's identity - I work with clients to build insight, boundaries, self-compassion, and acceptance to free themselves from it & live more fulfilling lives.

Sudden and dramatic life transitions can rock our world, causing us to frequently feel disoriented and unsettled. Whether such moments are encountered through loss of a loved one, divorce, trauma, substance recovery or something equally profound, ones faith, meaning, purpose, and direction is often called on as a means to sustain us. I welcome the opportunity to work with you to heuristically discover and strengthen your inner-self and potentiality.

I embody such gratitude in my lived experiences as a second generation Filipina-American, fellow trauma warrior, bold activist for survivors, recovering addict, and sobriety advocate as it has led me to my purpose in helping others on their healing journey.
As a resilient survivor of decades of trauma, I am passionate about serving children, adolescence, adults, and their families to promote healing from physical, emotional, sexual, intergenerational, and racial traumas. With 19 years serving populations with varying neurodiversities (ADHD, ASD, developmental delays), mental health struggles, and marginalized communities with complex traumas (e.g., substance abuse, domestic violence, sexual trauma, oppression), I am dedicated to empowering others to access their most authentic selves and journeying alongside people as they create a purposeful life that is meaningful for them.

Hi! Thanks for considering me as your therapist. Whether you are struggling with a past trauma or current relationship, I have more than 30 years of helping people learn to live the best life possible. Areas of expertise: cult recovery (religious, other); ACA, PTSD, addictions, and narcissistic relationships, grief and loss. All of us hit speed bumps -- sometimes mountains -- that keep us from moving forward. Our beliefs about how life works can block happiness. We can't always change what's happening, but we can change our perception of it. I work exclusively online. See my web site: www.beaarmstrong.com

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
